Chapter 3

I could see the shine of light through my closed eyes, and I could feel my head resting on something. I slowly open my eyes and turn my head to notice that what I've been resting on was the soft, brown haired boys shoulder. I gradually moved my head off his shoulder trying not to wake him up. But it didn't work. I could see from the corner of my eye, Ethan smirking at me while he whispers

"Don't worry I was comfortable". I looked away in discomfiture; I can't believe I basically spent the whole night resting my head on this guy I barely even know. What if someone saw! I thought to myself as I attempted to look away like nothing ever happened. It was still early and most of the kids were not awake yet. I closed my eyes again to attempt to fall back asleep but the raspy voice of the boy next to me continued to ask me questions I had no answer to.

Finally I could see the other kids moving around in their seats starting to wake up. The crew members came to each one of us and handed us a card with our name and picture. They stood in the middle of the room performing a presentation about the 'New World'. They told us that we would soon be there and they were required to make this presentation for our own safety. "You kids have 20 min before we go into shuttle mode and have to get back into your seats" said a tall officer in a commanding tone. All I could think about was that we were billions of miles away from a place that had so much meaning. I left all my friends behind to suffer, I felt as if I was betraying them because I get to live this high end lifestyle that could potentially save my life. Twenty minutes isn't a long time at all, and I knew I needed more time to prepare myself for such a drastic change. We were all released off our 'beds' into the play area we have been spending most of our time in. I walked over to Tara who was just getting off her seat.

"So what should we do?"

I asked,

"I don't know, whatever I guess... We could just talk here for a while until it's time to sit back down"

she insisted. We both walked over to our original meeting place the art table and once again sat in the clear chairs around the table. Talking to Tara was like talking to my best friend back home. It feels like I've known her forever even though we just met. RIIIIINNNNNGGGG the sound of a loud high pitched bell filled the rocket. Red lights came down from the ceiling and started flashing a deep red color that resembled blood. I grap on to Tara's arm and we hug each other tightly. The alarm kept going off and we could feel the rocket swerving through the open galaxy. I could see the other kids getting brushed to the sides of the rocket. I try and grasp the metal table in front of me but it's no use. My grasp on Tara's arm begins to loosen and I could feel my fingers slipping off the nylon suit. I lose grasp of Tara's arm and we both fly straight into the rockets cold-metal walls. I can feel a tiny wet tear stream down the side of my cheek. The rockets lights begin flickering and the sound of the alarm became more vague by the second. There was sudden silence. All of a sudden a sliver of the rockets nose came flying off and burst into flames. The crying became worse. Taryn and I moved closer and raised are hands above our heads to protect us from what was left of our ship. I could hear high-pitched screams of help and a lady calling my name in a weary voice. "ELLLAA!!"

"MOM!!"

I could see my mom through the ripped out hole dividing the two wings, holding on to a metal beam for her life. "

MOM IM COMING!"

I can barely see as the tears filled up my eyes. I tried to crawl my way down against the wall but it was no use the rocket began burning up and I could feel the space getting hotter and harder to breath in.

"STAY ELLA, HOLD ON!"

my mom said in voice as if she had been crying for hours before. I sunk down against the floor of the shuttle as Tara tried and shield me from the burning debris. A high pitched whistling sound stopped the terror as we hit an unknown object. I blank out.
