The first thing I did when I woke the next morning was cook breakfast for my parents. They're going out of their way to let me stay under their roof. It's really the least I could do. I made simple foods; some eggs, toast, a bit of berries for mum and grits for dad. Two glasses of apple juice were carefully placed on the tray as I made my way up the stairs.
I knocked before entering. They were both sat up in the bed; my mum had a book in her grasp, reading away while my father leaned his head on her shoulder, listening. Their gazes met mine and I quickly placed the tray of food over their laps.
"What is this?" My father asked.
"It's the best way I could say thank you, so, thank you."
Mum smiled at me. "This was highly unnecessary, but thank you. We appreciate it."
"Really, it's the least I could do. Thank you," I said.
My father and mother nodded, "we're having a picnic-slash-babeque tonight on the indoor deck to celebrate your father returning. You should invite Cristen."
"He's gonna be working all day. He has to take up double shifts."
"What for?" She asked.
"So we can have a decent flat by January. And I might not make it either. I need to go around London and look for some job applications."
My mum raised her eyebrows while my father just sat there, eating. "That's a lot of responsibility."
"Yeah, but Cristen and I decided it was time to act like adults," I said with a breathy sigh.
She nodded. "Good on you. I'm proud."
I gave her a curt nod and left the room, closing the door behind me. I felt someone run into my legs. I looked down and saw Fletcher holding onto my legs.
"Hey little man."
He tapped his head and I sighed. I forgot. He handed me his hearing aid and I hooked it behind his ear.
"Mo-ning!" He cheered. He's such a happy little kid. It was almost unbelievable.
"Morning, kiddo. Want pancakes today?" He frowned and shook his had. "Okay, French toast sticks?"
"Traw'barry sryp?" He asked.
"Oh yeah. Lots and lots of strawberry syrup," I winked. He cheered and rushed down the hall. I followed behind him and made my way down the stairs slowly.
Fletcher is probably the best kid ever.

"Un, t'oo, tree, fowr," Fletcher counted his fingers as he added up the pieces of toast he ate. I just smiled at him. Is this what it's like to have a kid? If so, I don't think I could wait any longer.
Flynn and Fisher were seated at the table, as well as Aliby; all of them eating French toast. Fisher and Flynn talked about games while Aliby read books off her iPod. She was still as smart as ever. She's already bumped up past her second and third form in secondary school. She's in grade nine at ten years old.
My parents came down stairs with an empty tray, tossing the plates in the sink and the tray in the bottom cabinet. They sent me a smile and I made my way back upstairs. I changed into some skinny jeans, boots, the a long sleeve sweater. I placed a pea coat over my shoulders and a beanie over my head. It was freezing outside and I've got to go to Oxford. I need to get another job as soon as possible.
I passed my mother in the hall and she sent me a warm smile, "heading out now?"
I nodded, "going to Oxford. Hopefully they have some offers."
"Good luck, sweetie."
"Thank you."
I grabbed my car keys off the counter and went into the kitchen. I hadn't eaten anything for breakfast so I grabbed a granola bar. I kissed my fathers cheek and made my way out to the garage. I hopped into the car my father got me for my birthday years ago and made my way to the outlet. Since snow blocked the roads traffic was a little backed up, wasting more time. Time I could be using to get a job. I should've looked online.
When I finally got to the outlet it was 13.45 and it was crowded. I passed a prawn shop, a couple book stores, a Jack Wills, a small knock-off Wimpy's, and some really weird tattoo place. This is ridiculous.
Not one place seemed to be hiring. I should just give up. This is far too unrealistic; get a last minute job, somehow manage to get enough money, get a reasonable flat by the end of the month.
I should just go home. No one's hiring this close to Christmas and we would barely work because of off days. I sighed internally. Time to pack for my grandparents' house I guess.
Just as I turned to leave the store - Wet Seal - a group of people made their way over to me quickly. Questions were fired briskly into the air. Hands grabbed me and flashes blurred my vision. I've never gotten caught in a fan-mob before so this is completely terrifying.
"Harmony! Over here!"
I followed the sound of the distant shouts and looked to my left to see Jr. He stood in front of the cinema entrance. Thank God for older cousins. With one last look at the crowd, I darted towards Jr. When I got inside he tugged me out the back entrance quickly, knowing that they were following us.
"Thanks Ed. Don't know what I'd do without you," I panted. He sent me a small smile and nod before walking back in the cinema. I assumed he was here on a date with his wife Violet. I've only met her a couple times, but she was very beautiful and she took (takes) good care of him; you can tell they love each other a lot.
Do Cristen and I look at each other like Violet and Ed? With that fondness in our eyes and the love swimming around us?
I took a slow walk to my car. Getting a job is defiantly crossed off the list.

I was confused when I got home as to why Cristen was there. He shouldn't get off until really late tonight. When he noticed my confused face, he pulled me inside.
"Cristen, you're off early?"
"About that," he mumbles scratching the back of his neck, "I've gotten laid off."
"The fuck? What are we gonna do now?!"
"Harmony, woah, everyone can hear you."
"I don't give a shit anymore! We're gonna be living with my grandparents, oh my gosh. Why did we think we were ready for this!?"
"Baby, please, stressing isn't gonna help," said Cris as he pulls me in his hold. I sobbed on his chest. "We can do this. I'll get another job and you won't have to worry. I'll make it okay."
"You can't make it okay. We're only twenty-one. We can't do this."
"Don't be a downer about it-"
"A downer?! Cristen, look around. This is real! This is life," I yelled. "And, baby, we aren't ready."
[project almanac is the greatest eff-ing movie omg
