"You like guys? For real?" asked Mike, still shocked by his best friend's news.
Will nodded sadly, staring at the ground.
"Unfortunately..." he whispered.
Mike raised his head and frowned when he saw how much of a mess the Byers was right now.
"Are you ok, Will?"
"Yeah! Don't worry..."
Will sat next to Mike on the latter's bed. He was holding his breath and wondered when the Wheeler boy would finally be disgusted and would get with the other ones. However, Mike surprised him by asking a different question.
"So, how did you know exactly? That you are umm... gay..." he asked.
WIll jumped when he heard the question but hurried to answer.
"When Jason kissed me, actually. My heart started to beat really fast, and I realized that I liked him, and I was into guys and not into girls," he explained.
"When did he kiss you?" Mike questioned him, a little dryly.
"One night, when I came over to watch a movie. We ended up making out all night..." admitted the teen boy with the bowl haircut.
"And you guys became official after that night?" asked the brown-haired boy.
Will nodded and noticed that his best friend looked disappointed. Unfortunately, Will couldn't find a reason as to why he would feel disappointed.
Mike was indeed very disappointed. He was jealous of this young man named Jason. He wanted Will's full attention and love, but unfortunately, that was not possible. His eyes had opened too late, and Jason had made a move first.
"But, I thought you said you were never gonna fall in love, and you thought girls were stupid?" exclaimed the Wheeler teen boy, remembering their last summer.
"No, actually, I realized that I was saying that because every time I would imagine myself falling in love with someone, I always saw myself with a guy, and I didn't understand. I thought there was something wrong with or something like that, but finally, I understood that it was because I like guys," said the younger Byers boy.
"Ah," Mike replied simply.
An awkward silence got in the room, and no one knew what to add. Mike was still shocked to find out that Will had moved on and was in love with someone else. As for Will, he was stressed out and nervous. He was terrified that Mike would end up finding this whole situation gross and join the rest of the party. Will got sick of the silence and look at Mike straight in the eyes.
"You know, if you are grossed out too, you can go join the others. I will understand, don't worry."
Mike was horrified by his best friend's offer, disgusted by Will? Him? How was that possible! He took the teen boy with the bowl haircut by his shoulders and looked at him sincerely in the eyes to show him how honest he was right now.
"I am not going anywhere, Will. You don't disgust me. It's the opposite, actually! I admire you for being able to accept yourself and not be scared to come out to us! They reacted like assholes, and they don't deserve your friendship at all! You will never disgust me, and I will always support you, whatever you do in life or whatever happens. Except, of course, if you develop a weird fantasy for animals, then maybe I will ask questions, but it's not the case, so I don't have any reasons to worry! You are perfect the way you are, and you are my best friend. You don't deserve what just happened with the others," Mike reassured him.
Will stared at Mike in disbelief, at the verge of tears. Mike's speech had touched him and made him feel good, even though it was hard to believe how amazing Mike was. Will was happy that his best friend was finally paying him attention and was also supporting him. He had never seen Mike so sincere and vulnerable before, and honestly, it moved him. Mike had always been the most courageous of the party, well, the lead. But Will had needed this speech coming from his friend.
"Will," added Mike, "If you need to cry, go ahead, let your feelings out, I won't judge you."
Will smiled weakly and tried to hold his tears back that were threatening to escape at any moment now. Sadly, his tears were stronger and escaped regardless of his efforts, and he started to sob.
He had every right to be so sad. Three of his best friend, including two who were his childhood best friends, had just rejected him because of whom he loved. They had even taken the girl that he considered his sister with them, and they were probably brainwashing her at the moment.
Mike rub gently Will's back and repeated to him several times that everything would be all right and that he was there for him. The Wheeler boy didn't care if his shirt was moist in Will's tears and saliva. The essential was that they were together right now and completely honest with each other.
About ten minutes later, Will finally calmed down, and Mike gave him and tissue box. Will used a couple before the boys decided to relax together and to change their minds, they read Mike's old comic books together like in the good old time. They forgot all of their problems for a moment and had fun imagining all of these super hero's stories, making them feel like young children again.
