"What kind of escape room?" I asked.

"If you are such a fan of Unus Annus and remember so much about the videos, than we're gunna put that knowledge to the test." Mark stated.

I wasn't sure I liked where this was going.

"In each Unus Annus video something is going to be missing. It will be up to you to figure out what, or who, it is. Then you will have to fill in the gap so that the video can continue normally before moving on to the next one."

His explanation only made my head spin with confusion.

"Wait how are things going to be missing from the videos? And aren't they deleted anyway?"

"You will be in the videos."

Come again? I wasn't hearing things was I?

"If it's an escape room, shouldn't I get riddle clues?" I asked, ignoring Mark's last reply.

Ethan kicked his shoe off and pulled a walkie-talkie out of it. How he had that in his shoe the whole time? I have no idea. He then proceeded to pick up his shoe and violently whip it at the door. After retrieving a second walkie-talkie from his other shoe, he threw that one too. He turned to me holding one of the walkies out like nothing happened. Warily I grabbed it from his hand, never breaking eye contact.

"We can use these to tell you your clues." Ethan smiled.

"Thanks. I'm still confused though. How am I going to be in the videos? Are we going to recreate them?"

"No no no. You are literally going to be in them. We are going to teleport you into alternate reality videos where something is missing-" Mark cut himself off, "What are you not getting??"

He seemed genuinely confused as to how I hadn't caught on to what his idea was yet.

"Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that you can't... Do that?" I said in bafflement. "Teleporting isn't real dude."

"Oh, Teleporting isn't real!" Mark laughed turning to Ethan.

"Haha, yeah! It's not real!" Ethan joined in.

The tone of voice they used dripped with sarcasm. It sounded like they were mocking me but I just couldn't understand why. A yelp of surprise escaped me at the instantaneous change of my surroundings. A hot sun beat down on the three of us. With sand beneath our feet as far as the eye could see I realized we were now in a desert. Somehow...

"You guys..." I paused to collect my thoughts, "You guys have powers?!"

They did that fake laugh they always did for the 'Let's Get Cooking' video segments and leaned back to back.

"Well, yes, but actually no," Ethan said.

At the sight of my furrowed brows Mark explained, "We only have powers when it's convenient for the story."

Ethan rolled his eyes. "Fanfiction writers, am I right?" He elbowed Mark jokingly.

"Ow," Mark rubbed his arm and left the 'Let's Get Cooking' formation.

"What story?" I asked hesitantly.

"The one we're in right now."

All three of the characters slowly turned in unison and stared. They stared past their reality. Past the cage of their existence. They looked beyond the screen that keeps them from our world and stared directly at you. Yes. You. The reader.

"Oh yeah," I gave you a quick nod.

Our attention shifted back to the matters at hand. The escape room.
