"Maybe I'm not normal then."

Domingo threw me a panicked look as soon as I entered the restaurant and I looked around to see a lot of guests. I understood the meaning behind his look quickly and threw on an apron before taking over the cash counter and serving.
Domingo on the other hand, rushed to the kitchen. His safe haven.
For about an hour we were super busy with Domingo preparing dishes in the kitchen and I serving them.
Sighing, I stretched a bit and relaxed as I saw the crowd of guests subside before my eyes. Only two tables were occupied now.
Even though we are a small fast food joint, we are quite busy. Mainly because it's a small town and restaurants that offer affordable fast food aren't very common.
I made myself a cup of espresso and sat on the floor behind the cash counter, sipping it slowly. I was in my own bliss as the first gulp of deliciousness travelled down my throat when I heard the doors of the restaurant opening.
Instinctively, I got up. "Good evening, welcom—" I stopped midway when I saw Madeline standing at the door and my fake smile got converted into a real one as I dropped the formalities.
"Oh, look who's here." I grinned, knowing she probably came to meet her mate.
She blushed slightly and walked towards the counter. "Hello there," she replied, "Alpha." She added in the end in a low tone with a subtle bow.
I smiled in return.
"How have you been?" She asked, sweetly.
My smile widened. I really like people who show concern about the wellbeing of others. "Can't say it's been a bad week, what about you?"
She shrugged, and sighed. That's when I noticed the dark circles under her eyes that she had very poorly tried to cover up with makeup. Her mascara was slightly smudged in the corners as if she had been rubbing her eyes too much. There was a general tiredness around her eyes that saddened me a bit.
"I'm doing fine too, I guess." She said, as she tried to smile.
I pursed my lips, not buying her lie.
"You wait here please." I told her as I rushed into the kitchen.
I saw Domingo flipping burger patties that station and our chef preparing lasagna at the other end of the kitchen.
"Psst, whatcha doing, Sunday?" I poke Domingo on his side, making him jump a bit, almost dropping his burger pattie.
He turned around and glared at me at the mention of his horrendous nickname.
"Did you leave the cash counter empty?" He asked.
I shrugged. "No new guest really. I was bored."
He furrowed his brows in confusion.
"Aaand is unfair how you are getting to do all the fun stuff and eat all the free food that you want." I said, crossing my arms over my chest.
He blinked and looked down at the burger station and then back at me. "So, are you telling me to take your place?"
"Duh."
His lips twitched slightly as he tried not to smile. "Any normal person would have said that directly." He muttered as he changed his apron and went out of the kitchen.
