Today was the day. I fight the urge to cry, and walk with Kommandant Eisenhaur to the Hitler Youth.

"Good luck, Klara. I'll be checking in on the Youth, so don't get too scared." I nod, and walk up to a stout lady. Her hair was wrapped tightly in a bun, and her eyes were a cold grey. She turned toward me.

"Heil Hitler!" The woman salutes Jack back. "What is your name?" She asks.

"Klara." I respond.

"Nein!" She yells. "Your new name will be Liesel." I start to say something, but she wrenches my hand from behind my back and drags me into a room. "This is your room. You will stay here until Wednesday."

"Excuse me-" she slaps me. "Do not talk unless I give you permission, you dirty, Polish, schweine." She throws me onto the bed. As she leaves, I hear locks maneuver.

I look around the room, and notice that there aren't any other beds. This must be where they put the new girls, like me. I notice a window and walk up to it. Despite the metal bars around it, I manage to pry it open. The fresh air soon hits me and I breathe it all in. I walk away from the window and lift up the mattress, wanting to see what was underneath it that made it so hard. I gasp upon finding two capsules, one filled with water and the other with non-perishable food. I sip the water and nibble on the food. After hiding it once again, I fell asleep on the hard bed.

"What is the meaning of this!" The voice roars. I am jerked out of the bed and directed to the open window. "You think you are clever? Getting fresh air while the other girls suffer?" She slammed the window shut and locked it, before leaving the room. I quickly grabbed the food and water and hid it in my thin dress. She comes back in and takes me to another room, this time without windows. Once again, she locks the door with me inside.
