After nine excruciatingly long hours in the car, I'm standing in front of her apartment building, willing myself to keep walking.
The city is buzzing around me. People hurrying off in all directions towards their destinations. They pass by each other with no acknowledgement of one another. Living in their own bubble. No smiles, no greeting, just straight faced trying to make it to whatever is so important.
Making my way up the narrow flight of stairs I come to stand in front of her apartment door. Luckily she is only on the second floor so there isn't much of a walk. Just my constant struggle with the bags I am carrying because I'm too lazy to take more than one trip.
Her building seems to be pretty nice compared to what I envisioned it to look like. The walls and floors are brightly white and have a nice modern look. The money she gets from the restaurant must be enough to keep a good apartment.
Bringing my hand up I knock on the door and hope that she hasn't left for work yet or I will inevitably be screwed. The door swiftly opens to reveal a smiling girl.
I take a moment to take in her appearance. She has grown so much since I have seen her. She is just as tall and slim as she has always been, but now hips emphasize her amazing figure as well.
The freckles that decorated her cheeks have only become more prominent and hair surrounds her just as always. The ginger color really brings out her hazel eyes and the curls just accentuate her bubbly, sassy attitude.
I can't take anymore time to admire my best friend as she pulls me into a bone crushing hug. A sense of security over takes me as she just holds me close. I reciprocate her tight hold as we just hug each other for the first time in seven years.
She smells of rose and jasmine, just like I remember she did all those years ago. Her hug is much needed and the comfort is bringing me back to the old days.
"Oh my God bitch!" she screams in my ear, rendering it useless. "I missed you so much." she gives one last squeeze as she pulls apart and looks me up and down.
Anger fills her once joyous face, I already know that she has seen my bruises. Delilah has never known the extent of what I have gone through, after she moved away we lost contact for a while and I just never really told her anything.
"Riley what the fuck?" she questions while holding my arms out inspecting them.
"Delilah don't." she looks confused. "That's for another day."
She reluctantly nods her head at me and then takes one of the bags from my hand. She links arms with me and shows me down the hall to her second bedroom.
"It isn't much, but it should work just fine with the two of us." She smiles.
"Honestly it's perfect, but I won't stay here long. I plan on looking for apartments as soon as possible."
"There is no rush, I like the idea of you living here."
I just nod my head knowing there is no room for argument, she is a stubborn one. I'll just have to bring it up at a later time.
"I leave for work in thirty minutes, but I shouldn't be home too late considering it's only Wednesday. We can go tomorrow during my shift and get you a job there. I have already talked to the manager and you are basically all set, but she just needs a short interview."
I grab her arm before she can leave the room. "Wait I was actually hoping I could go with you tonight." I mumble looking down.
"Of course you can. Babe you can do whatever you damn well please." she giggles. "Just be ready in thirty." she tells as she walks out the door.
