He seemed fine and I gasped outwards with relief; even if I hated him, I never wanted him dead. Then I turned him over, and had to stop another gasp. He was dead, but clearly recently killed. His Chocolate Brown eyes were glassy and open, his hair framing his face. It was stained with blood, all of it, even his suit. "Simon..." I whispered. "Ave Atque Hale." I left him there, because what could I do? Then my mind flipped into Shadowhunter mode.
Someone was here. Sebastian was here. "No. No no no this can't be happening..." I muttered. We killed him and that was it. Done. Over.I sprinted back to Izzy and saw that she was tracing iratzes all over. Alec was standing over her andI saw that Jocelyn was crying, holding something in her hands.
A single chip of blade, covered in red. With a sinking feeling, I saw a scrap of lace caught on the tip.
"Clary!" I screamed.
"Clary!" Bellowed Alec.
"She's gone." Whispered Izzy.Alec dropped to his knees beside his sister.
"Izzy, if you can tell me anything. Anything at all. We can help Clary."
"Clary... She took... Jonathon. She saved Simon. To go with him." A terrible, sinking feeling fell to the bottom of my stomach.
Alec grabbed my arm and took me roughly to the other side of the room.
"Simon's gone. Isn't he. Isn't he?! Don't lie to me Jace."
Alec looked into my eyes, with a look so fierce that I knew that there was no point in saving the truth. I sighed.
"Yes. Yes he's gone. He tricked her." Disbelief trickled into my voice. "Look. What ever Sebastian is, he is not a liar. I don't think it's him, Alec. He told the truth to tear people apart. He twisted the truth, but he never lied." Alec's eyes were ablaze.
"Oh so now you understand him?" he whispered. "Now your brother is back, you feel connected? Grow up Jace. People change." he walked away, and back to Izzy. I stood there, stunned.
