Chapter 2

Usually in horror movies the silence means you're about to get jump scared, but the silence in this world is considered a good thing.

Silence means you can hear when a Fractured is right behind you.

So as the newly found group of boys and girls exit the petrol station and enter into the silent street, they let out a quiet sigh of relief at not having to deal with the annoyance that is the Fractured.

"Our ride is just up ahead. And remember, we're on a time limit, so you better keep up." Informed Bakugou. "Looking at you sickly Susan."

Emiko glared at the rude blond. "That's not my name." She said, annoyed.

Before Bakugou could reply with a snarky comment, Kirishima butted in. "Oh yeah! We don't even know each other's names. Well I'm-"

"Kirishima." Nova cut in. "We know your names."

"You guys yelled your names at each other when you were arguing about bringing us with you to your base." Emiko explained.

The boys looked dumbstruck at the girl's announcement and glanced at each other. 'Well they're observant' they thought, impressed. Although, Kirishima was more impressed than Bakugou. He's the equivalent of three tough crowds.

"Ok well since you already know our names, what're yours?" Kirishima asked, smiling encouragingly.

"Nova."

"Emiko."

Awkward silence followed soon after, but Kirishima was apparently determined to become friends, or he just wanted to know more about these strange girls. Either way, he tried to start up a conversation.

"So how long has your friend been gone? Maybe we can find her." He asked optimistically. "Well, we probably won't be able to look for her today because we have to get Emiko to the base so that she can get the medicine she needs, but maybe a team can go out tomorrow to find her."

The two girls chuckled at this, and seeing Kirishima's confused face, they explained.

"No offence, but we doubt you'd be able to catch her. She can be fast when she wants too and we're maybe the only ones who can keep up." Said Emiko.

"We'll see." Commented Bakugou. "And I think your forgetting that we have a car and I don't think this chick, whoever she is, could beat Ilda in a race."

"Bet." The two girls said in unison, smiling.

After that conversation died down, it was the girls turn to start up on a new topic. They asked about the base; Who's running it, how it's run, what's the system there like and what the people who take sanctuary there are like.
The two boys, well it was mostly Kirishima, answered their questions with vigour, trying to make the girls trust them.

"We don't have a single leader. It's a democracy, made up of the leaders from either different bases or factions. There are four bases so far, and each one has a purpose, for example, Base Two is all about eradicating those Things into extinction. That's where the trained fighters come from, like us." Kirishima explained, pointing to himself and Bakugou for emphasis.

"If that's the case, then why are you out here getting supplies?" Asked Nova.

"Well, our mission is to exterminate those zombie guys to help humanity get back on track, so that means that we kinda do the all-around jobs, y'know, to help humanity. What we're doing right now is called R, y'know, for raiding."

Nodding her head at his explanation, Nova asked, "Well what are the other bases for?"

"Base One is for the families that are mainly intact, the adults get to raise their children in a bit of peace and normality. But the adults still have to work for their lifestyle so for one month every term, one of the parents have to one of the bases to work, but if they work for Base Two then they have to work once a semester because there's a higher risk of death."
