Micah's pov : 27 years oldI checked my watch as I pushed open the glass doors to the building with my elbow. In my other hand was a plastic bag with two takeout boxes in it. As I walked up to the desk at the front, a gave the woman a warm smile.
"Hi! Are you looking for someone?" She was leaning on her elbows, but readied her hands over her keyboard as she spoke.
"Doctor Bakugo?" I readjusted the bag in my hand and she hummed.
"You're not here for an appointment, right?" She looked skeptical and I gave a light chuckle.
"No. I'm his husband. He should be on lunch if I have my times correct." I showed her the bag and she blinked.
"Oh?...oh!" She smiled, muttering to herself. "Titus you little fox." She typed on the computer before speaking to me. "He's pretty quiet. I'm pretty sure me and a few of the others are the only ones he's befriended and even then, he doesn't talk much." She grabbed a sticky note to write on.
"Yeah, he can be pretty quiet, but once you get to know him, he's a handful." We both laughed and she handed me the paper with his room number on it.
"I had noticed his ring, but he never said anything about being married, so I didn't really question it." She shrugged.
"Well, it is a new office for him. Just give him a week or so and he'll be talking your head off." I looked at the number on the sticky note. "I better get going before his lunch break is over. Have a nice day." I waved and she returned it as I walked down the hallway to his office. The door was closed so I knock lightly and waited. It cracked open quietly and I smiled, seeing my husband do the same. He slipped out and hugged me, which I returned.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" He pulled away and I showed him the bag of food.
"I brought lunch." I held it out to him and he took it, placing his hand on the doorknob while whispering.
"Just talk quietly. She's not too fond of loud noises." As he opened the door I saw a small girl playing with some Legos on the table. Behind her was a couch against the wall and in the corner was a bean bag chair with a bookshelf beside it. The bookshelf had games, books, and toys scattered on the shelves. Another chair sat opposite the couch and against the wall behind it was an organizer shelf, white and grey boxes sitting in each space. In the corner opposite of the bean bag, some toys were tucked away, ready to be played with. The curtains were drawn shut and the room was lit by a few lamps that stood tall in the corners of the room. The whole room felt warm and very welcoming.
He knelt down on the other side of the table from the girl. "Hey, Kaya, you wanna meet somebody?" She shook her head no and he smiled despite it, waving me over. I walked over and sat next to him. Her hair, as he had told me months ago, was frizzy and all over the place.
"Hi. I'm Micah." I held my hand out and she just looked at it before looking down and continuing to build her Legos. I set my hand down. "What are you building?" She shrugged as she brushed hair out of her face. It was definitely curly. Kai's looked like that when it wasn't taken care of properly. I turned to Titus. "Do you have a few hair ties?" He furrowed his brows.
"No, but Misha might." He stood and disappeared out the door. As it shut, I heard a small voice.
"It's a house." Kaya didn't look up but I knew she was talking about the Legos. I hummed.
"That's a really nice house. Who lives there?" I leaned on my elbows and rested my chin on my fist. She moved more of her brown hair out of her face before looking up to me with her hazel brown eyes.
"I don't know." She reached into her bag of Legos and pulled out a few people. "Them." She didn't talk anymore and continued building.
"Hey, do you mind if I play?" I picked up one of the people and she nodded. "Can I come sit by You?" I waited until she nodded before making my way around the table and sitting beside her. She handed me a few legos and asked me to build a tree, which I happily did. Titus walked back in and handed me a few hair ties and I thanked him as he sat with his back against his desk.
"What are those for?" Kaya looked at the black bands i held in my hand and I handed one to her.
"Kaya, would you mind if I fixed your hair for you?" I let her hold the hair band and she was hesitant before nodding. I slowly took my spot behind her on the couch and pulled her hair back with my fingers. I felt her tense slightly as I started a french braid. After a moment, she relaxed and I finished the braid quickly. I moved to sit next to her again and she was touching the braid, feeling it.
"Thank you." She mumbled and I saw a small smile come to her face.
"You're welcome." I picked up the Lego person she had given me and continued to play with her as Titus opened his food. I grabbed my box and opened it, grabbing a bread stick and offering it to Kaya. She took it and looked to Titus before biting into it, smiling afterwards.
"Thank you, Sir." She said it sweetly and I slowly placed a gentle hand on her head.
"Just call me Micah. Sir makes me feel old, and I am not old yet." She giggled and nodded.
"Okay, Micah. How old are you then?" Kaya took another bite of the bread and I tilted my head.
"Twenty seven." I started to make another tree and she nodded.
"I'm six." She started building something else.
"Wow. I remember when I was six. That was a long time ago though." I chuckled and it went silent again. All of a sudden I felt a weight against my side and looked down to see Kaya leaning on me. Slowly, as to not scare her, I moved so my arm was around her and hugged her.
She leaned her head against me and eventually snuggled closer. Me and Titus talked quietly and he told me that this was the most he'd seen her smile in the six months She'd been with him. He also mentioned she would let very few people touch her, and even then she was never the one to initiate it. I finished eating as Kaya stayed curled into my side and the next time I looked down, I saw that she had fallen asleep.
