「chapter two 」

"You seriously don't need to do this, Spence- I'm perfectly fine," Y/n argues, stealing a glance at her friend and coworker who was holding her door open for her.  This comment earns a dry chuckle from the man, who follows her lead and shuts the door behind him.

"The fact that you've mentioned that four times in the last seven minutes makes me even more worried about your concussion." He states, creasing his brow as he shrugs off his coat and sets it on the counter.  "Typically memory loss occurs within the first few weeks of the head injury, so I'm not ruling that out quite yet." His eyes follow Y/n's movements as she plops down onto her couch, allowing her body to relax.

"You're thinking too far into it, Spence.  Don't worry about me, I'll be fine.  You just worry about getting yourself home safe and sound." She shifts so her entire body is laying across the furniture.

"Oh, I'm not going home." He remarks.  "I'm staying right here to make sure you don't get yourself into any trouble." He grins, before approaching her.  Gently lifting her legs, he sits down beside her, lowering her legs back down onto his.  "The doctor cleared you, but just to be sure I'm going to stay the night.  Maybe even two." Knowing she wasn't going to change his mind, Y/n lightly sighed.

"Fine.  Can I at least go to bed, or is that banned too, doctor?" The words roll off her tongue so smoothly that Spencer almost doesn't catch the sarcasm dripping in her voice- almost.  However, he lets it slide, figuring it's the concussion talking.  He purses his lips together, leaning slightly forward.

"Well it's been around 2 days since you sustained the injury, so I suppose you'd be fine." He nods, before gently lifting her.  Ignoring her words of protest, he begins carrying her to her room.

"What the heck are you doing, Spence?" She knits her eyebrows together, narrowing her eyes at the man.  "Let me down!"

"What does it look like I'm doing?  I'm bringing you to bed." He comments, before finally reaching her room.  He gently lowers her onto her bed before pulling the covers up to her neck.  "Alright, do you need anything?" She shakes her head.  "Okay, um, I'll be on your couch if you need me." However, before he can turn away Y/n reaches up and tugs his sleeve, gaining his attention.  He tilts his head.

"Do you think you could, um, maybe stay in here with me tonight?  I mean, only if you're comfortable with it, of course." Rubbing his shoulder, he hesitantly nods.

"Are you sure?  I mean, it's not just the concussion talking?" Giggling, she nods in response.

  "I'm positive."

"Uh, alright then." He slowly gets into bed beside her, before turning the lamp off beside him.

"Thanks, Spence.  Sorry I was being such a pain earlier." She lazily grins, the contagious action causing Spencer to smile.

"Ah, it's okay.  You weren't too much of a pain." He jokes, causing Y/n to giggle.  Soon enough Y/n is struggling to keep her eyes open, the events of the day having taken a toll on her body.  Spencer watches as her eyes slowly droop shut, soft snores emitting from her slightly open mouth.  She instinctively curls up in his body, snuggling into his side.  Chuckling with bated breath, Spencer pulls her body closer to his, figuring she wouldn't mind.  And she didn't- in fact, it caused her to fall into an even deeper state of slumber, a wide smile gracing her lips.

"Goodnight, Y/n," Spencer whispers before falling asleep.  Needless to say they were both flustered to wake up with their legs tangled together under the covers.
