"Sir, I used to respect you greatly and have always wanted to work with your company. I believed
that our alliance would help many civilians. However you have demonstrated your incapability of
respecting a woman and maintaining professionalism therefore I have to refuse your offer."
The man before me stood wide eyed and mouth agape. It shocked me that he would still be surprised at my refusal considering he had smacked my ass as I walked past him after inviting him into my office so that we could sign a contract for our alliance. I definitely did not get to be the CEO of E&G tech by dealing with men like him.
"Please M'am! Don't do this. I apologize for whatever I did wrong. I cannot report to my boss that I lost this deal because a women, clearly asking for it might I add, became a prude and refused."
My anger levels rose to the max and I was about to punch the life out of the boy, not man. However, I have learned that reputation is much more important in this industry than succumbing to the level of these men. I pressed the security button on my desk and had him thrown out of my building.
Once he was out of sight and I was alone in my top-floor office my past memories threatened crawl up and squirm into my brain. I began to feel hands all over me and the feeling of violation. I desperately tried to push them back not wanting them take control of me this time. I heard heels clicking closer to my office door and attempted to recollect my composure. Vulnerability was a weakness which I would never let anyone see. Three knocks sounded on the other side of the door.
"Come in" I responded watching the door open and the head of my secretary, aka my bestfriend, pop up behind it. I had always admired her fiery red hair and hazel eyes with her matching personality.
"Hey E... Soo I heard that you kicked someone out?" she questioned wanting to know all the drama while making herself comfortable in one of my fluffy chairs. She popped one of my peppermint mints into her mouth as she plopped her feet on my desk.
"Yea, it was one of Peterson's men. Complete douche."
"Ah.. I see" she responded with a look on her face that I knew all too well.
"What is it this time Jenz?" I asked as I braced myself for the bad news. She looked at me almost debating if she should tell me whatever she had in mind. She placed her feet down and sat straighter.
"I think you should hire a bodyguard. You aren't safe anymore especially with how much your business has grown." She looked more worried than usual. I was constantly at risk the moment my company started gaining fame however it was never anything serious.
"I've told you before that it's not necessary. I mean look at me I'm still alive and haven't received any new threats for the past couple of months."
She eyed me as if wanting to tell me something and in the end decided to just let it rip. " But I just got an email. I couldn't find out from who it was or from where but I know that it's definitely not some hot admirer trying to get into your pants. They threatened to kill you again but this time it came attached with an image of you walking into your penthouse."
Jenny was never this serious. I mean she was the type of person that would make jokes out of everything even when you were supposed to be serious. Just yesterday while we were watching the Notebook, it being her night to chose a movie, she started laughing when they kissed in the rain.
I chose to dismiss her suggestion instead because this was something that usually happened. Maybe never as intense as this one but they would always end up being false alarms.
"Look Jenz, this has happened before and nothing bad has happened to me. If they were going to actually go through with it they would have done so already".
She was about to continue our debate when my phone beeped. I looked down and immediately began to smile like an idiot. Jeremy, my boyfriend of two years, asked me to meet him for lunch at our favorite cafe.
"Oh please stoppp! You are totally making me feel bad about being single with that stupid cheesy smile of yours" she says as she covers her eyes pretending to be frustrated.
"I can't help it! I think I might actually really love him and he might be THE one, you know?" I say responding to Jeremy still trying to control my smile.
"Come on E, you could do so much better. He literally only wear cardigans and kakis. How could you possibly find that attractive?" She gags.
"Just because he doesn't dress nice doesn't mean he's a bad person. He's always been there for me ever since I got the business running."
"Whatever E, just go and meet your manz so you can stop rubbing in your perfect relationship" she teases jumping up and leaving my office.
I grab my things and head to Cafe Pari oblivious to the fact that what was to come would completely change my life.
