We walk outside, except Clarke, only to see Raven toed to a post, her arms cut.
"Bellamy, theyre killing her!" Octavia whispers. Then to Lincoln, "Do something!"
Askari frowns at Gustus.
"Gustus!" She shouts, and Gustus heads over. Askari grabs his wrist, and flips his hand so his palm faces upwards. There is white powder scattered the leather wrapped around his hand. Poison. "What is this?" Askari demands. We are out of Lexa's earshot, so she cannot question our findings.
Gustus doesn't answer. "Answer me!" Askari demands again.
"Askari." Lincoln warns, but she acts as if she doesn't hear the tone of worry in his voice.
Gustus grabs Askari's small wrist, and twists it, causing her to turn her back to him and wince. "I answer only to Lexa." Gustus' deep voice snarls.
"Then tell her you did it." Askari spits. Lincoln can't do anything to help her, because if he tries, Gustus will snap her wrist. All he can do is ask for her to let her go.
Would Gustus do it? It's probable. It was my first thought, after all.
"Are you accusing me?" Gustus twists her wrist more, and Askari falls on her knees.
"Well Raven sure as hell didn't do it. It's Darkroot poison that was in the cup. Only our village knows where to find Darkroot. Pick your poison better, Gustus." And that accusation causes a loud crack to come from Askari's wrist. She yells in pain as Gustus walks away. Her yell causes the two wolves to come to her side, defending her.
Ignoring the growls from the wolves, Abby helps Askari up, and leads to the side to help her oddly bent wrist. "Sahara; Tundra," Askari dismisses the wolves.
"Stop!" My loud voice makes the Grounder stop cutting into Raven's flesh. "He," I point to Gustus, who's walk of victory is interrupted, "searched Raven. The poison is only accessible by your village. Gustus tried to poison you, Lexa."
"Gustus," Lexa says. She is young but powerful. Much like Clarke. "you have been accused. Speak the truth. Now."
Gustus replies in Grounder language. It must of been a confession, because Raven is released from the post, and Gustus replaces her. Raven is helped by Abby and Kane inside to be treated.
****
After Gustus has received his punishment, death by a thousand cuts, Clarke stands talking to something that isn't there. As if she expects the night to reply. "Love. Is. Weakness." She declares to the dark.
"Clarke." I say quietly. "I have to leave for Mount Weather now."
"Bellamy, I'm a murderer." She chokes out, her blue eyes looking up to see my brown ones. "I killed a friend. Because of what? Love? Love doesn't exist!"
"No, Clarke." I say. "You saved him from pain. He is free of pain; of misery. What happened to Gustus, would of happened to Finn if you didn't save him. And love does exist. If it didn't, the camp, our camp, would never have been up. If love didn't exist, I would never have cared less about you, or about O. But love does exist. Love is the glue that keeps everything together."
Then Clarke does something I would of never expected. She puts her lips up to mine, and puts her arms around my neck. I kiss her back, and wrap my arms around her waist. She is the only thing that exists right now.
Pulling back slowly, Clarke flutters her eyes open. "Be careful, Bellamy." She says. "I can't lose you too."
