Clary's pov
Joyce, Hayley, and I go to the backyard into the orphanage playground. We get in top of the monkey bars and chat there.
"So the big 'adoption fest' is coming up." Hayley says.
Every year the orphanage seems to have one day where a lot of people come here to adopt kids and this year it's on my birthday.
"Yeah do you think you'll get adopted?" I ask.
"Nope this is my last year in this orphanage so I doubt it." Joyce says.
"What about you?" I ask Hayley.
"I'm hoping." she says.
"Do you think Dan will come?" I ask hopeful.
"Don't get your hopes up Clary." Joyce says.
"I know it's just Gabriel told me I would see him in four years and four years later I still haven't seen him." I say.
"Well you'll see him soon don't worry." Hayley says.
Then Jacob comes into the backyard.
"Hey girls! Wanna play baseball?" he asks.
They look at me.
"Go ahead." I whisper.
"Sure." Joyce says and they run over to the baseball field.
Dan's pov
Nothing has been making sense lately.
"Hey Dan look at this." Avery shows me a flyer that came in the mail.
"There's a big adoption fest going in soon. Do ya wanna go?" she asks.
I look at the date. It's going in the day of Clary's birthday. She'll be eighteen this year.
"I don't know..." I say.
"Come on Dan please." Avery says.
She gives me the pouty lips and I laugh.
"Well it's on the day of Clary's birthday and..." I say.
"Okay I understand I'll give you time to think about it." Avery says.
I decided to take a nap again. Lately I've been getting really tired. I go into my room and sleep. In my dream I was in the orphanage playground. Clary and Hayley were talking to each other on the swings.
"Clary!" I yell.
She looks at me and then she turns into dust.
"Clary!!!" I yell.
Hayley walks up to me.
"Dad if you want to see Clary go to the adoption fest." she says.
"I'm not your dad!" I yell.
I wake up and I immediately run over to Avery.
"Avery we are going to the adoption fest." I say.
"Great! What made you change your mind?" she asks.
"Let's just say I've been seeing things." I say.
