Flashback - Violet's perspective - August

"Violet, let's go!" Mother hollered at me from downstairs.

I sighed and adjusted my black blouse, checking myself in the mirror. My parents were going back to Malfoy Manor today, another damn meeting. They were becoming longer as time went on. We would often stay the night at the Manor due to the meetings stretching long into the night.

Throwing an overnight bag over my shoulder, I headed into the wide hallway outside my room and toward the grand staircase. I saw my parents standing in our large foyer, waiting for me.

"Violet," my dad regarded me, his expression cold to hide his anxiety.

I knew that my parents were not exactly happy that the Dark Lord had returned, although they would never say it out loud. They had never talked about their times as Death Eaters much before his return, only saying that it was a time they "preferred not to talk about." We were happy before, my parents working at the shop we owned in Knockturn Alley and enjoying their seemingly never-ending wealth. We would attend events with other Sacred Twenty-Eight families, all of us laughing and enjoying life without the burden of serving an evil lord. The end of my fourth year marked a time where everything was going to change for the worst. I had never seen my parents so terrified until I watched them leaving for their first meeting with the Dark Lord since his return. Since then, they would occasionally take me with them to Malfoy Manor when they started to stay the night there, too tired to Apparate home.

I grabbed my mother's arm as we Apparated to the Malfoy Manor. The gothic facade of their mansion greeted us coldly. Their Manor was bigger than ours. The entire home was large, stark, and cold. We entered their foyer, a massive family portrait of Lucius, Narcissa, and Draco was perched on the wall in the spacious front area of the home.

"Oh, the Chan's are here!" Narcissa Malfoy was bustling towards us. She was truly stunning for her age. Her brown and blonde hair was pulled into a tight bun and her black robes hugging her body elegantly.

"Hi, Cissy," My mother pulled Narcissa into a hug before my father did the same.

"Violet, you look great," Narcissa said as she gave me a hug, "Draco is upstairs in the rec room. Why don't you drop your things off in your room and go find him?"

I nodded, thanking Narcissa before heading toward one of their many staircases and towards the guest wing of the house. As I walked up the stairs, I heard Narcissa's strained voice telling my parents that tonight would be a long night.

I went to the room where I usually stayed in Malfoy Manor and dropped my bag beside the king-sized bed. I glanced towards the door as I pulled out a small joint from my bag that I had rolled prior to coming. It had become a habit of me and Draco to get high together while our parents were in meetings. We would usually sneak off to our own rooms to go to bed before the meeting was over to avoid getting caught.

I tucked the joint into the pocket of my cardigan and went to the rec room to find Draco. I found him sitting on the floor in front of the couch, a bottle of firewhiskey sitting on the floor beside him.

"Hey, Vi," Draco smiled at me. It wasn't his usual snarky smirk, but a genuine grin.

"Hey, Drake," I smiled back, "I got a little present for you," I said in a sing-song voice.

"You know I love your gifts," He leaned back against the foot of the couch and patted the floor beside him, "sit with me, Vi."

I sat beside him on the floor, tucking my legs beneath me. I pulled the joint out of my pocket and brandished it in front of Draco's face. He looked at the joint and then to me, his signature smirk on his face.
