Assem walked on the narrow street, gravel cracking below him and a starless sky above him. The night was unexpectedly quiet, even the dogs which usually howled were sleeping peacefully by the side of the road. A strong wind blew, rustling through the leaves of the nearby trees and making Assem clutch his Hoodie even harder. He rubbed his hands a little as he took out his mobile and looked at the bright screen which contained a message box.
It read:
Location: Warehouse no 3,
Wadman spaces,
Opposite Hanuman Temple,
Entry through a narrow gully
Suspected problem: Reports have said
that people have seen the dead body of a woman covered in blood, walking near the warehouse. Her actions suggest that an evil spirit has taken possession of the body. As a result a lot of rumors have been circulated in the locality as well as on social media, which have scared many potential customers for the leasing of the ware house. Wadman Brothers have given this case to us on a priority basis and want the solution to be found as soon as possible. You are authorized to engage in combat without causing much harm to the surroundings. As always, its a very secret mission and would be better if you don't let anyone see yourself while operating.
'A spirit possessing a dead body ..that's uncommon for a town as densely populated as Bombay' Assem thought to himself as he placed the phone back into his pocket and walked towards the sign board named Wadman Spaces, the canvas bag containing the axes hanging behind on his back.
The path wasn't as narrow as Assem had thought it would be. The three warehouses which Wadman Brothers owned were near a busy locality whose entry was through a narrow gully. On the right side of the wall, there seemed to be a factory which looked much deserted. On the left were 2 and 3 floored buildings which would probably go into redevelopment in the next few years. Assem observed a few paan stains on the walls which indicated that there were people still living in this area.
He passed through a narrow lane by the left side of the gully. Assem stopped as he heard muffled sounds from the small lane. He took 3 steps back and peeked into the small bylane.
Assem saw the outline of a man walking in a drowsy state towards what looked to be a young girl. Judging from the manner the man took his steps, he was clearly high on alcohol and out of his senses. The girl was packed between the man and the dead end with no exit to escape. "Men.." Assem crunched his teeth. He took a glance at his watch, it was 15 minutes past 3 in the morning. He had asked for about an hour to complete the exorcism and was hoping to finish by 4 am, shortly before local milkmen and newspaper delivery guys started their jobs. 'Damn it....the exorcism had to be given on a priority basis! but if i leave her now, it would literally mean killing her.' He took another look at the man and gave a sigh ,he was gonna save the girl even if it meant aborting the exorcism. Right now,her life mattered more then some spirit going haywire in a warehouse.
Aseem quickly scanned the small lane. It was about 8 feet in width and had an air condenser unit sticking out of one of the walls. "Yeah that will do it!" Assem muttered as he took a deep breath and rushed into the bylane.
He took quick steps making as less of a noise as possible. Aiming a low kick at the man's knees to falter his balance, he grabbed his head by the hair and banged into the air condenser machine.
The already drowsy man tried to recover his balance and threw the stone towards Assem, barely missing his head by an inch. 'Damn that was close!' Assem ducked as the man threw him a punch then waiting shortly, gave another kick, this time at the ankles of the man. "Bingo!" Assem gasped as the man struggled to maintain his balance. The alcohol surely had kicked in and started doing its tricks on him. Assem didn't wait for the man to regain his balance and as soon as he found it correct, curled his fists tightly and gave a sharp uppercut to the already staggering man. 'THUD!' Assem watched as the man fell down on the ground, unconscious. Breathing a sigh of relief, Assem to face the girl, she had now gotten up and was dusting her pants, a pink bag hanging from her shoulders. She had blonde hair and bright blue eyes above a slightly well pointed nose which surprisingly went rather well with her white sweater. 'She's most definitely not from around here' Assem thought as he observed.
