Dream was walking past Night's closet when suddenly it opened and a hand reached out and pulled him in. He almost screamed, before remembering one thing; you can't kill someone who's already dead.

The stranger who pulled him turned out not to be a stranger, it was Maldoni.

"Hey, Dream. I wanted to tell you what you need to do to rest, and since your going to talk to Nightmare I thought it'd be the perfect time." Dream stared at her, confused.

"Why, though?" He asked, Maldoni sighed and looked at him.

"When someone passes, in order for them to rest they need everyone to let them. It is the most common reason someone cannot rest right when they die. For you, everyone misses you, but they've moved on with their lives. Except for one, Nightmare. He hasn't been able to move on, and you need to make him."

"H-Has he done this on purpose?" Dream asked in shock.

"No, he doesn't know. But you have to tell him then make sure he can say his final goodbye and move on." Dream nodded, deep in thought before turning and leaving.

"Hey, Nightmare. I want you to follow me."

"Uh, sure Dream."

Dream led Nightmare through a portal and back to one place, the tree.

"W-Why are we here?" Nightmare asked, having all the memories come flowing in.

"Well, how about you come sit with me and then I'll explain everything." Dream said, leading Nightmare to the very place they used to sit at together all those many years ago.

Once they had sit down Dream sighed, ready to tell the truth to Nightmare. "Nightmare, I've figured out why I can't rest. It's because you need to let go and say goodbye, I know it's hard but I think you can do it." Dream stared at his brother, who was frozen with shock.

"I-I'm sorry." Nightmare mumbled, still in the same exact position, it was like he had just turned to ice.

"It's nothing you have to apologize for, and I also need to tell you something before you let go." Dream said, shyly, but still with a smile on his face.

"Alright, then." Nightmare said, finally moving his body again to reposition himself.

"I-I, I love you." Dream said, covering his face in embarrassment and fear. Nightmare didn't say anything for a minute, and for a second Dream thought he left.

"I love you to." Nightmare said, giving Dream the most joy he's felt in a long time.

"R-Really?" Dream asked, his eyes widened with shock, but he also had an impossibly wide smile.

"Yes, really." Nightmare then got up and hugged Dream. Dream hugged back, feeling so much happiness.

"Well, I guess it's time to say goodbye then." Nightmare said, pulling away from the big and staring into Dream's dull eyes that usually looked so broken and sad, but today they looked happy. Having that much joy in those dead eyes it was a little creepy, but Nightmare still thought he was adorable.

"Yeah, I guess it is." Dream said, his smile still there but still the slightest bit less wide.

"Well, I'll see you again someday, bye Dream. Have fun in heaven." Nightmare said waving, then Dream felt something. It felt like the final chain has been taken off and he can now run free again.

He felt something on his back, when he looked behind he saw wings on his back. They were beautiful just like Maldoni's.

"Good job, you two." Maldoni said, stepping next to Dream, ready to help him fly with his wings for the first time.

"Now, it's time to go Dream. Nightmare, thank you." Maldoni said, before taking Dream's hand and jumping into the air, now having her magnificent wings flapping.

Nightmare watched as she helped Dream fly higher and higher, he watched until they were out of sight. Once they were gone he sighed and went back home.

He'll miss Dream, but he knows he's doing the right thing. And, he will see him again someday.

Just not today.
