Laughs don't last forever

Chapter two: welcome

  We finally arrived. I can say I've made a friend(I think). I get off the train, Draco's with two of his friends. I think he mentioned Crabbe and Goyle or something. I feel someone tap on my shoulder, it was the brown haired girl. Her eyes had this sparkle and she began to speak, "Hi I'm so sorry that you couldn't sit with us earlier but, I hope we can still be friends. I'm new here. My name is Hermione Granger, pleased to meet you." "It's alright, I'm new too. My name's Lylah." I said taking my hand out. We shook hands. I explained to her why I had no last name but, it's fine. We got on some boats. I sat with Hermione, Ron and Harry (the black haired boy. I think I read something about Harry but I didn't want to bring it up).

I looked up at this enormous, breathtaking castle. It is Beautiful, it's a gray color and decorated bright windows, It must be over 150 feet tall! We got off the boats and walked through this enormous oak front door. Mcgonagall was there, she began to say, "Welcome to hogwarts.... The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats at the Great hall, you will need to be sorted into your houses...." She kept speaking but I was too nervous to listen. What if they decided that I didn't belong in Hogwarts and send me back?

We all walked into the Grand hall. We were surrounded by all sorts of people. I saw Fred and George with the Gryfindors. Out of nowhere some ghosts walked in (I was shocked and scared but they were friendly so they must be good. This ghost named Friar was part of the Hufflepuff house). They began calling people to be sorted. It was a test of some sort but all there was, was an old hat on a chair (It began to sing. The hat was the test). "So we've got to try on the hat!... I'll kill Fred, he was going on about some troll." Ron whispered loudly to Harry. "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted." said Mcogonagall.

"Abbott, Hannah" shouted Mcgonagall. She was put into Hufflepuff. They kept going until eventually they said "Hermione Granger" she turned red for a second but she went up and she got sorted into Gryffindor. Draco was sorted into slytherin along with his two other friends. Harry and Ron were sorted into Gryffindor. "Zabini, Blaise" was followed by a loud "Slytherin". Finally it was my turn (I'm always last because I have no last name).

"Lylah" Mcgonagall looked at me with a smile. I forgot how to breathe, but regardless I began to walk to the front of the grand hall (I felt everyone's eyes on me. I almost fell because I was trying to walk as straight as possible). I had a small headache when the hat was put on me. It felt like ages had passed when the hat began to whisper to me, " You... you're always ready to expect the unexpected. I see courage and a spoiled past, you can solve any RIDDLE. Better be a...." the hat paused before shouting, "Slytherin".

I walked to the slytherin table and Draco made Goyle scoot over so I could sit in between them. "Congrats Lylah." The rest of the night was spent talking and laughing. I don't think i'd ever been so happy in my life. I wanted to go and talk to Harry, Hermione, and Ron but I couldn't because we were being taken around the castle as a tour by our prefects.

Gemma Farley (the slytherin prefect) took us to a wide hall with moving staircases! The paintings moved and spoke! She took us to professor Snape's classroom first, it was enormous and smelled sweet like cinnamon. Then we went to Mcgonagall's class. There were feathers on the wall and enormous windows at the front of the class. There was a mini library full of books titled "Transfiguration for beginners". We saw many more rooms, small and big, cold and warm they were beautiful. But the best building was the library. It was enormous! They must have every book written ever! It smelled like old books and there was a fireplace. There were small couches and desks decorated with books everywhere(even on the ceiling)!

On our way to the Slytherin common room we were warned not to go on the third floor. Malfoy said he bet there were dragons being held there (I doubt that, dragons are enormous and breathe fire, they wouldn't fit inside of a castle, said Percy. Percy is also Ron's brother and he is a Prefect.)
    Gemma took us down to the dungeons(It was cold and dark but there was enough light for us to see). "I thought we were going to the common room" Shouted some first year I'd never seen. We suddenly stopped in front of a wall. Gemma tapped the wall three times once to the left then right then up she said "Pure-Blood" the wall suddenly opened to show this huge green room. There were books and windows at the sides of the room, there were also green banners on top of the fireplace and a huge photo at the bottom titled "Salazar Slytherin". I think Malfoy said he was one of the four founders of Hogwarts.

There was two spiral staircases inside the common room. To the right there were the girls dormitories all first year slytherin girls had to share the dorm, to the left there were the boys dormitories all first year slytherin boys had to share the dorm. Draco frowned with this information but, he went to explore his dorm.

When I entered my dorm I found my name on top of a desk almost at the back of the room. Next to the desk there was a closet when I opened it, it was like a portal to another world. There was a big bed two bookcases a rug in the middle of the room. There was a mirror on the wall opposite from the window and at the corner of the room there was a real closet. My items were already inside of this room along with a note that said, "Welcome to your room for the next eight years. Feel free to change anything you'd like in your space." That's so cool! I've never had my own room!
