"Why didn't you ever say anything?" (sequel to Not Alone)

It's been a year and a half, and me and Sam were blessed with a healthy and beautiful baby girl.
Problems still came around here and there, but we worked through them.

As I pulled away from the kiss, Tom called Sam's name and asked if they could talk. I let them talk for a bit and I went upstairs.

I took a shower, brushed my teeth, and got dressed in a red hoodie and grey sweatpants I stole from Sam.

I went back downstairs to grab a glass of water but then I heard talking coming from the living room.

I knew it was probably wrong, but I walked closer and hid behind a wall to eavesdrop(I was just too curious, hm?).

"I see the way you look at her," I heard Sam's voice say.
"You're still in love with her, aren't you?"

"Why does it matter, Sam? She loves you. Any chances I have of being with her are long gone. Plus, you love her, she loves you, you literally already have a child sleeping upstairs. Sooner or later, you'll be married and I'd have to deal with it."

"Tom, that didn't answer my question."

"Okay fine, yes, I'm still in love with her. But like I said, why does it matter?"

I was shocked.

Tom was in love with me?

Tom has been in love with me this whole time and he never even told me anything?

I made a terrible mistake. I dropped the glass of water I was holding in my right hand. It crashed onto the floor and broke into a million pieces and I ran back upstairs to the bedroom I shared with Sam. Of course, on the way there, I got injured because I stepped on a piece of broken glass.

When I got inside, I fell onto the floor.

Tom and Sam came running into the room.

"Y/N!" Sam rushed over and knelt next to me.

"Are you okay, love?"

I ignored his question and looked at Tom.

I was crying. I didn't know if it was because of the pain I was feeling from my injury or the pain I felt from the fact that Tom, my best friend for as long as I could even remember, was in love with me and didn't tell me a single thing about it. Maybe it was both.

"Why? Why didn't you ever say anything?" I asked.

"Y/N-"

"You aren't gonna answer that question now, are you?"
"Just get out. I know you aren't gonna answer that anyway."

He looked at me and didn't say a word. Eloise started crying and Sam helped me up and our focus was now on our daughter.

Tom walked out of the room and closed the door.

"Ssh, it's okay, mum and dad are here now, sweetie," I said. My foot was still bleeding and of course it still hurt so I picked her up and sat down on the bed, leaning my back against the head board.

"You okay, love?" Sam asked as he dressed my wound.

"Do you think I am?"

I don't lie. Not when someone so dear to me asks me if I'm okay or fine.

"Well, yes, but also, no..?" he said.

"You knew," I said.
"You knew and you never told me."

"Tom didn't let me tell you. How much did you hear?"

"Not much— ow! Be gentle, dammit!"

"Sorry, I'm trying," he said as he looked down.

"It's fine. Get Harrison for a moment, will you?" I said.

"Why?" he tilted his head.

"Please?" I pouted.

"Oh, alright," he said as he got out of the room then ran downstairs. He came back in the room with Haz behind him.

"Haz, can you babysit?" I asked.

"Me? Babysit El?" he said.

"You spend time with your little nephew," I said with a pout.

"Please?"

"Fine."

"Yay! Come 'ere."

He walked closer to me and picked Eloise up.

"Hey Ellie," he smiled at her.

"Sam, help me up."

He picked me up bridal style then brought me outside to our car. I got in the passenger seat.

"Wait, where—"

"You'll see," he told me then he got in the driver's seat.

He drove us off to a high cliff with grass all over it then we got out and laid down on the grass.

I was busy admiring the night sky I didn't even notice Sam looking at me.

"Y/N?"

"Hmm?" I hummed as I looked at him.

"Do you love me?" he asked.

I kissed him and answered, "Yes."

"Then marry me," he said with a soft smile.

"What?"

"Marry me, Y/N L/N."

"Are you being serious right now? Because I can't tell."

"If I pulled out the diamond ring I have in my pocket would you believe me?" he asked as he pulled out a tiny box then he opened it to show a pretty diamond ring.

"Will you marry me?"

"Yes," I said as I kissed him then he put the ring on me.
