Kian took a deep breath in as he clutched his hands together, unfolding them right before knocking on a plain white door that lead to the person who ran the hospital.
Once he was allowed inside, his first instinct was to look around the room, staring at all of the items within it. Each object left the boy enchanted as he found them odd and mysterious looking.
The items ranged from a sculpture of kidneys, to odd family photos, statues of the human body, turned inside out, only to view muscles and tendons, as well as other similar figurines that showed off the organs within a human body.
Among each item, Kian couldn't help but to find the family photos being the most peculiar looking ones within the entire office. But nonetheless, he didn't pay any mind to it; He traveled to this hospital to find a job, not to judge an old man's office.
"Welcome, I've been expecting you!" His boss extended his hand out and the polite younger man smiled, greeting the older with a handshake as he was instructed to take a seat right in front of the man's desk as he simply sat behind it, getting to know more about Kian.
"It's always been my dream to get a job like this. I studied for over two years and watched countless videos on the internet, i- in FACT, I even participated in-" The man raised his hand up for one second to speak as Kian nodded at him, allowing him to talk.
"Now," He cleared his throat before reaching for a thin stack of paperwork inside of a light yellow folder. "I see a great potential within you, young man." Kian's eyes lit up, full of hope and glee.
"I do, I really do, kid." The elder continued. "You'd be perfect for the job, I mean, we really do count on our paramedics. Though," He paused, sighing for a moment. "What... Is something wrong?" Kian questioned, blinking frequently.
"Well, there's just so many paramedics within this hospital that there might not be a possibility for you to occupy that position. Meaning that... I'm sorry, Mr. Lawley. But I can't give you a job here." That made the younger man's facial expressions change from a smile to a deep frown of disbelief.
Seeing this, the older man felt upset. "Are you one hundred percent sure that there's nothing, absolutely nothing that you can do? Please, sir. I was really really enthusiastic about getting this job today. W-will you at least call me if any job opportunities open up?"
Kian felt his heart was about to burst with angst as he awaited for the older man's reply.
The white haired elder stood up from his chair for a moment to pick up one small item, out of every item within his spacious office, he held a simple cassette tape within his hand.
He then breathed out, grunting lowly as he sat back down with a smile on his face. The young adult carefully stared at his hands, stone-faced.
"Uh, grandpa it's like 2017, I doubt that anyone uses those anymore." Kian jokingly thought
when the elder doctor placed the tape down onto the table."In order for you to qualify for this job, you need to watch a weekly video in this room. Starting today, Mr. Lawley." From the moment Kian was told what he had to do in order to become a paramedic, he couldn't have felt happier.
"Wait- Seriously? That's all it takes to be a paramedic? Hell YEAH, show me!" The young man stood up and followed behind a suspicious elder who was leading him out of his office and into a short hallway before they could find a spacious room right around the corner.
Inside was a large amount of padding all around the walls, a single chair, and what would appear to be a large television screen. He instructed the younger to take a seat on the only chair around such a large room, but Kian hesitated at first.
"Don't be shy, go on. Have a seat, Kian." The way Kian's name lingered on the old man's mouth felt somewhat sinister to the taller man, but nonetheless, he decided to give it a shot and complied with his instructions.
Once seated, the male was told to stay put where he was as the other walked away for a moment, to assist the blank television screen.
"What type of videos am I about to watch, boss?" Kian asked, unable to keep the question as a mystery for him in the back of his mind. He soon began to ask of the category for the videos, to which the older man simply responded with a bland, "Educational," to Kian.
After that, the boy no longer asked any other questions and remained silent as the video began to play. The lights were suddenly shut off, startling Kian so much, he completely ignored the fact that there was a temporary warning on the video, mentioning the following:
“⚠Warning: This video contains images that are graphic and NOT for the faint of heart.
It is not recommend for you to view the following clips if you are squeamish, or easily triggered by blood. Viewer's discretion is highly advised.
You have been warned.” Kian reclined back in his chair, reading only the shadow of whatever was left of the three second warning image that gave him no time to figure out what was written on the screen in the first place.
"Oh great... Slam the door a little louder next time, gramps!" He rolled his eyes, giggling to himself in silence before the video compilation started to play. At the very bottom of the screen, it showed the timing within the tape. It was nearly an hour long, so Kian decided to pay close attention to every detail, taking notes in his head.
Only awhile later when the video clip began to play, Kian was left in a state of shock, as his eyes couldn't comprehend the violent and gruesome clips he was witnessing.
"Why did he show me this!? I can't survive an hour long watching murder films!"
