Chapter 3-1:The Written Exams

Mother coached us through exam week and only Leona knew about her being in Lunalupus. Exams were spent thinking. Ace and Deuce were also acting strangely. When tests were handed out, Grim and I got our test papers. I braced myself and looked at the score. I stared blankly before grinning. Why?

Because I had gotten a 100% on the test. Mother is a lifesaver! I turned to Grim's paper and was shocked to see a 100 as well. He cheered and I turned to the one braincell duo. Ace, I learned, got a 92 and Deuce got a 90. All we had to do was wait for tomorrow.

I skipped inside the dorm and Grim yelled for Mother to bring him the canned tuna she promised. Mother gaped at us in shock before cheering. It seemed we would be having a celebratory feast tonight.

-The Next Day-

I walked up to see who made the top 50 and found myself and Grim in the top 5. I cheered ecstatically at this news. Mother would be so proud. What made me worried was when a student said, "I didn't make the top 50? But, that means that.....oh no."

My stomach dropped as I looked at the students. The group included Ace and Deuce. There was a sudden flash and then there were anemones on some of the students' heads. I suddenly smelled a familiar scent next to me and turned to see Jack. "Lupus? What's going on here?"

Jack turned to me before turning back to the students. "I don't know. But they're headed to Octanvielle. Let's follow them and see what happens."

"Alright."

We followed them to Octanvielle. We stepped through the Octanvielle mirror to find an underwater place. I was marveled by the sight but Jack and I made sure to stay out of sight. We entered an area under an invisibility barrier. Grim was watching the students and seemed glad I made sure to stop him from going out. Then, I realized something. They were going to complain.

The Prefect of Octanvielle made my blood boil just from the sight of him. Azul Ashengrotto, I think his name was. Nonetheless, he seemed like trouble. A Scarabia student stepped up. "What the hell is this?! You said-"

"I said, if you made it into the top 50. Those were the terms of the agreement. You did not make it into the top 50. Therefore, this happened." Azul said, cutting the student off. Every second I was here made me want to leave even more.

-After some minutes-

Even without magic, these students are incredibly foolish. Trying to launch that sort of rebellion with no magic is like asking for death. I watched as the last student was tossed down and I clutched my head. Grim gave me a worried look which I returned with a sheepish one. Jack gestured to the doorway and I nodded. The urge to look over the letter Katherine gave me was strong.

We arrived at Lunalupus with zero issues, but now I had a small problem on my hands.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?"

I bit my tongue at Jack's remark. Mother glanced up from her book to stare at him. "Hello. My name is Sirenous. I'm Vermillion's mother. She had an issue so requested my presence."

Jack nodded, but was probably still cautious about my dear mother. Mother was good at sensing when things were wrong so she turned to me. "What happened while you were out?"

I sighed and took a seat on the couch. "For starters, Grim and I made the top five on the written exams. This made us happy and we were eager to tell you."

"Good job you two! But, please continue now. Excuse my excitement."

"So, I then heard students muttering about not making the top 50. Lots of students have anemones on their heads. The ones who don't are extremely blessed. The anemone students went to Octanvielle."

"Anemones? Wow. Imagine if you were among them Grim."

"Mother."

"Sorry, please continue."

"Anyways, so they went to Octanvielle. They seemed like they wanted to complain. Also, it was underwater. You would have loved it."

"I'm sure I would've. Anyways, continue."

"Right. Before I continue, I just want to let you know that the Octanvielle prefect is a Cecelia."

"An octopus merman? How did you figure that out?"

"....................."

"Right. Your wolf senses. Should've known. What happened next?"

"Well, it seems like Prefect Ashengrotto made deals with students. I wonder how though."

"We'll figure it out. What happened next?"

"They tried to stage a rebellion with no magic."

"Idiots. Complete idiots."

"I know Mother."

"And you go to school with them."

"I'm ashamed to."

"Anyways, let me guess. Octanvielle kicked their butts?"

"Yep. Jack and I left soon after."

"Alright."

There was a knock at the door. I turned in the direction of the entrance. "Who is it?"

"Headmaster Crowley. May I come in?" The voice said. I sighed.
"Come in!" I shouted.

The headmaster then left himself in and was surprised to see my dear mother watching him. He nodded to her before saying, "I wasn't able to stop Ashengrotto's business again."

My mother was alarmed. Jack was as well. I probably was as well. "Again? What do you mean again?"

"The last time this happened, he made a deal with me to release the students."

"What was the deal?"

"I had to give him control of the Mostro Lounge in return for the students' release and the school got 10% of the profit made each day. It seemed like such a good deal that I couldn't refuse!"

'My headmaster is a complete idiot.' I thought to my self. I had to do something about this before it got out of hand.

"I say we spy on Prefect Ashengrotto."

The headmaster seemed startled at my idea at first, but then he nodded. Grim nodded in agreement and Jack seemed confused. Mother seemed pleased. "Know your enemy as they say. I'm on board with the plan. Also, nice to meet you Crowley, my name is Sirenous. I'm Vermillion's mother."

The headmaster smiled at my mother. "Dire Crowley. I'm honored to meet you Sirenous. I must be on my way now. Have a good day!"

With that, the headmaster left and Mother seemed ready to go. "When do we start?"

I tapped my chin before lighting up. "How about during school tomorrow? It will give us more time to get information on him after all."

"Excellent plan dearest. I say let's go for it."

"Then it's settled. Tomorrow is the day of the mission."

Ashengrotto won't know what hit him.
