the next day at school, you were bombarded by yua, who was full of questions about your tutor. you answered every single one of them, ranging from "is he hot?" to "what kind of ice cream flavor is his favorite?"

granted, most of your answers were, "i don't know, yua, i met him yesterday and he kinda hates me."

"wha? why would anyone hate someone like you? you're so... hmm... ah, maybe i know why he hates you," yua teased, grinning. you rolled your eyes, playfully shoving yua's shoulder. 

"shut up if you don't have anything good to add for my ego," you warned, releasing a small laugh. 

"aye, y/n-chan, you shouldn't say stuff like that!" yua stuck her tongue out, before carrying on. "so so, why does he hate you? do you hate him too? do you need me to tutor you?"

"i don't know. i met a bunch of volleyball boys yesterday at the store, and hinata - one of the boys - told me that tsukishima just hates everyone. i'm not that special," you shrugged. yua hummed in an understanding way. 

"i see. he's just that type, huh? they're the worst! just wanna punch them in the guts, am i right, y/n?" yua yelled, her small hands forming into fists as she dramatically punched the air in delight. "in all seriousness, though, don't let him bring you so down. most of what he says will probably be empty words if he hates everyone. he won't have time to target someone as insignificant as you - no offense."

"none... taken?"

the rest of the school day was as per usual - sighs from teachers and jeers from students about your grades, meeting up with yua for lunch... but passing a certain blonde boy in the hallways and taking notice of him was NOT something that you usually did. 

so, you gave him a wave. 

and to reciprocate, he gave you a smirk and turned away, walking in the opposite direction. 

fuck you too, i guess, you thought, stifling a laugh. for some reason, the way he held himself was so funny to you. the confidence he had to think he was above everyone else... surely it had to be an act? nobody can be that egocentric, right?

these thoughts tsukishima's real personality just made you want to become his friend faster and faster.
