CHAPTER SEVEN

Yura stared between Ruth and Carmen, the tension between them was thick, they were not sitting close to each other and were each looking away.
"Okay mermaids, I think it's time someone explains to me what is happening here"
Carmen was silent, she didn't move a muscle, Ruth sigh and turned to Yura
"We had a fight"
"About"
"About another merman...."
Yura gasp in shock
"Did you guys pick the same mate"
"Ewwww no"
Ruth sigh and closed her eyes for a moment.
"We... I came towards Carmen's home today, i was with a merman, Cleo and I rescued him from the shores, close to Dorothy's house, Carmen attacked him out of nowhere... She wanted to kill him"
"Carmen!!"
Yura shouted, Carmen didn't say a word, she was unmoved, Yura nodded to Ruth to continue
"I mistakenly hurt her, she took him prisoner"
"He's from the northern tribe"
Carmen said and kept quiet, Yura face immediately changed, she quickly turned pale, the horrifying look on Yura face scared the hell out of Ruth
"Yura!! What's wrong?"
"The northern tribe?"
"Yes... Carmen said they are dangerous and blood thirsty, but Yeon is not like them"
"Marco... They are all monsters!!"
"Yura!!!"
"Don't Yura me, those monsters wiped out my whole tribe, my family, my twin brother, everyone of them, I barely escaped"
Yura raised her palm, there was a large scar on her palm, she stared at it with so much pain Ruth felt horrible for her, she most have been through hell and back
"Where is he?"
"In the cell"
"I want to see him"
"Why?"
Ruth was afraid for Yeon's life, the look in Yura's eyes was worst than the one Carmen had displayed. She was torn between her friends and the merman she was developing feelings for.
"I just want to see him, I want to know... I need to know if he was there that day"
"And if he was?"
"I'll kill him myself and that even you can't stop me"
Yura said with so much hatred, it scared Ruth
"Please Yura, I beg you, this is not you..."
"He took my parents, friends and family away from me, my whole tribe"
Yura said with a thick emotional voice, she was crying, the water washed the tears before they could stain her cheeks.
"I know, but he didn't do it.. He's people did"
Carmen turn to face,
"I don't get it Ruth, why are you supporting him"
"Am not, I swear am not.. I just..."
"You care for him"
Carmen said it in such a calm voice, her past hostility gone
"Am sorry, I can't help it... I... I.. Don't even know why"
"I do.. Its mating season"
"It is?"
"It is"
Yura replied, her voice still husky, she moved away from them.
"Are you saying, what I feel for him is only because.. because of mating season?"
"Might be, might not be... You could actually really care for him, as long as you two haven't made a pact yet"
"A pact?"
"Its when a mermaid and a merman mark each other, as each other's mate, sometimes this marking is forever, sometimes you replace your mate next season, depending on the level of emotions involved, merfolks are very emotional creatures"
Carmen explained and pulled Rutb towards her, she examined Ruth carefully, she pulled at her lower lip, then slowly examined her left shoulder.
"He bit you, twice"
Yura turned in shock
"He what? Oh that monster, now I'll kill him"
Yura shouted, she was already swimming towards the prison, before any of them could stop her.
"Yura..."
Ruth was about going after her
"Let her go Ruth.."
"What? She'll kill him"
"He isn't so helpless you know, he's a strong merman, who only subdued to me because of you"
"Am confuse what's going on?"
"He bit you?'
" yes.. What does that mean?"
"Did you bite him too?"
"No... We only kissed"
"Thanks to Poseidon"
Carmen said sounding so relief
"What does the bite mean?"
"When two mate choose each other, they strengthen their bound and seal their courtship by biting each other, Yeon has tied you down, that might just be the reason why you care for him so.. But since you haven't bitten him, there might still be a way to severe your bound"
"He marked me? Without my permission?"
"Yes... See Ruth, that's why I say he's no good, he's tribe are like that... They are manipulative and dangerous"
The realization that Yeon marked her without even giving her chance to choose whether she wanted it to be him or not, hurt her. How could he do this to her? What they shared in that cave, was it all in her head, was it all mating season.
"He used you to come to my home unharmed"
Carmen said, gentle stroking her hair. Did he really use her?
"I need to speak with him"
"I'll go with you.."
"No! On my own.."
The pain Ruth felt was surprisingly deep, did she like him so much, to feel so deeply hurt by the thought of him using her? What would Cleo say about this? Back then in the cave, she had the same urge to bit him, but she found it too weird, she withheld herself and he went and marked her, she wasn't even sure she wanted to mate with him. She wasn't even sure she wanted to mate at all. She didn't know how having mermaid babies would be like for her. She was still uncertain and Yeon comes and does this to her. She swam away from Carmen, there had to be an explanation for this and it better be a good one.

Yura wrapped her palms around the bars. She was staring at his back, his skin was dark and smooth, his tribe usually had tattoos, where was his. He turned and faced her, His bright Emerald Green Eyes sent shiver all over her body, he was one attractive Merman, with a chiseled chin, pointed nose and eyes the same color as the great sea monster called Goku's eyes. He didn't swim towards her, he didn't move a muscle, she couldn't recognize him, he wasn't there, the day they wiped out her tribe but he was a full blooded Northern, his features screamed it. She felt a little relax knowing he wasn't there that day.
"How is Ruth?"
He asked with so much consign in his voice, she laughed, if she didn't hate him, she might have actually believed him.
"Why did you do it?"
