It's too late for sorry - IDW Prowl x Gender Neutral Reader

WARNING: angst ending

"(Y/n)."

Your body stiffened at the sound of your name, your lips in a tight smile as you halted your steps and turned back to face the infamous black and white bot. The all too familiar Autobot high commander, Prowl.

"My office, now."

Before you could even reply or greet the mech, he stormed past you with a tight grip on your wrist as he forcefully dragged you into his office before slamming the door shut. Tearing out of his grip, you stepped back away from the mech. Watching him as he made his way to his seat beside his desk and sat down in front of the floor to ceiling window that revealed the torn up, yet peaceful Cybertron and for the first time in a million years alive. Well, the most peaceful it had been since the war broke out.

"What do you want Prowl? You can't just drag me off the hall and into your office!" You exclaimed, frustration building up in your voice, cutting to the chase while the mech tidied his desk and turned to look at you. Indicating for you to take a seat before he spoke up.

"I heard you're joining Rodimus on his little fool's crusade."

You can hear from the low rumbles of his voice, he was holding back, really trying to hold back. "And what if I am?" you replied, your arms crossed in front of your chest as you looked at the mech who had his gaze fixated on a spot on his desk. "What does it matter to you what I decide to do?"

"You'll only die going. I can do without all the others but-"

"But what?" You snapped, storming over to his desk and slamming your hands down before he turned to look at you with those beautiful blue optics. Always calculating, always thinking behind that blue light, the one that you fell deep for and crashed landed. "But Chromedome refused to stay so you're going to drag me down with you? Only now when you lost everything you think of me," your (f/c) optics narrowed when you met his cold gaze. It burned in the back of our mind, when he used you in one of his petty plans even after everything you've done for him you were just one of his pawns that is to be sacrificed.

"(Y/n) be sensible."

You hand curled up in a fist as you glared at him, "Sensible? I am sensible, the most sensible thing right now is to not listen to you and just leave. Do you even understand the pain you've caused me- the pain you caused us, the consequences of your plans, Prowl?"

"I have calculated everything about my plans, so yes I do. What I don't understand is why would you go on that quest." The mech said, his voice barely wavered as he stared at you with that same look as ever.

"Because, maybe that's what I wanted for once. You really think after four million years of war we can just sit still and wait? I can't, I don't want to when there's still more out there, so I'm going on the quest no matter what you say," You said simply, brows furrowed as you looked at his cold gaze. "Good day Prowl," you sighed, turning away to head for the door, halting when he spoke.

"There's someone new isn't there? It's Rodimus isn't it?" the sound of his sounded more like a statement and confirmation rather than a question for you to answer, it shook with a new found rage.

"What?" You questioned, turning around to look at him again. "I- maybe there is, maybe it is Rodimus because he's actually alive. He cares, he has life in him and not just... some program and calculations," you turned to leave once again only to feel a force on your wrist pulling you back.

"Don't go to him. Whatever he can offer I can offer more and better, please I miss you (Y/n)."

Oh how you would've thrown yourself into his embrace and melt at those words merely years ago, that was all you wanted. His trust, that look desperate and loving look in his eyes, how you wish you understood each of his "I love you" when he decided to use you in one of his plans. But now you felt nothing but pity for the black and white mech, the desperation and fear in his eyes.

"I'm sorry, I thought I could lose you. I thought it was fine, but my calculations were wrong. I missed you desperately, I don't care about everyone else but you're the one thing I can't lose, not again. I need you by my side. I love you (Y/n)."

"Oh, Prowl," You couldn't help but sigh, turning to face him and taking his hand into yours, watching as his blue optics grew just that little bit lighter. "I loved you too. But it's too late for sorry. We all have regrets we must carry with us, and this might just be yours," you smiled, "I hope you find peace one day, Prowl," you let his hand drop from yours and made your way towards the door. It slid open and once you stepped out it closed behind you, the black and white mech stood there dumbfounded with disbelief of the results. You heard a loud crash from his office but you didn't stop your steps, if not you walked faster making a beeline towards the Lost Light. Thrilled to start your new life.
