Him
I looked outside the window to see the light drizzle from this morning turn into slight pouring. I sighed, knowing I didn't bring an umbrella today. I looked around inside the lecture hall, everyone in the room looking either bored, concentrated, or both. This wasn't supposed to be such a waste of time, but then again it wasn't supposed to be raining today either, so I guess life's just full of unwanted surprises. I began doodling in my notes, unconsciously drawing the person in front of me, well, their back at least. It was none other than the adored Oikawa. He was a ladies man and a personified ego. I only talked to him once, for a class project, but he was in a majority of my classes. He was good looking and I sort of admired him from afar, though I don't think we would really get along if I ever talked to him, to big of a personality for my liking.
I was pulled out of my thoughts by the professor clapping her hands together as a way of dismissing us. "Alright, see you guys later, and don't forget to review for our next class." She reminded us and I mentally slap myself for not paying enough attention for what we were supposed to review for. I began gathering my stuff and headed towards the door. On my way out, I was met with a familiar figure waiting for me, Daichi. I smiled at him as he smiled, putting his phone in his pocket. "Hey Suga! Ready for lunch? I'm beat" He said, patting his stomach. I nodded, "It's your own fault for doing sports so early in the morning, I'm sure you don't even eat a proper breakfast." I laughed as we began walking to the cafe area downstairs. "Hey, protein shakes are proper breakfast items. Anyways, I've got some interesting news." Daichi replied, a shining in his eyes. "And that is..?" I asked. "Someone confessed to me today! So we're going to the movies tonight." He answered in an excited tone. I looked at him and it seemed as if he was already reading my thoughts, "Yeah, yeah, I know to be careful, but I'm telling ya! She's really cool. We've been talking for a while, and I think we could really work..." He said a bit sheepishly. I gave him a reassuring smile, "Go for it, I hope it goes well Daichi!" He smiled and nodded in agreement. The rest of the walk was Daichi talking about how wonderful this girl was.
I took a bite out of my sandwich as Daichi was talking about his next game. I was partially listening as something, or someone to be exact, caught my attention. He noticed the location of my gaze and sighed, "Why don't you try to talk to him? I'm sure it can't be that hard to be his friend." I snapped my eyes towards Daichi, "Wh-what do you mean? I mean I could probably be friends with him, I just... I don't know, he has too much attention following him around, I'm not sure I'd like that." I shrugged, now avoiding Oikawa's general direction. I heard a 'Tsk' from Daichi as he began getting up, "Sometimes you gotta get out of your comfort zone. Anyways, I should get going, I forgot to bring today's notes so I better get them before our next class, see ya!" He smiled as we said our goodbye's. I finished up my lunch and made my way to the restroom.
As I walked in a heard someone sniffle, I tilt my head, looking in the direction of where the noise came from, to see an upset looking Oikawa. "You..alright..?" He turned to me almost immediately, a bit stunned, but quickly turned around, "Uh yeah, just my contacts messing with me again, sorry for worrying you!" He said, putting on his usual tone. I sighed, "I can see your reflection in the mirror, it's not your contacts is it?" I asked, trying to be comforting. He sighed with a soft but sad smile, "You caught me." We both stood there for a moment before we both made eye contact and I spoke again, "Do..you wanna talk about it?" He just shrugged, "My sister and I had a fight this morning, it was a bit bad, and she left. I guess it's just now hitting me that she may not be coming back." My face softened a bit, "If I may, what did you fight about?" He stiffened slightly, "Well, um, I got mad at her when she told me she wanted to live abroad.." I looked at him and sighed, "I'm sorry for that and all, but it is her life you know.." He nodded, "She said the same thing..Still, she wants to go there without a plan or anything, so one comment led to another and, well, I think she's going to go." Oikawa's voice cracked slightly as he finished. "Well, go on I know how it feels to let go of someone close to you, but everyone grows up someday and we should encourage it." I said, hoping he patches things up. Before Oikawa could speak, my phone interrupted, it was Daichi reminding me about class soon. I sighed, looking up at Oikawa and patting his shoulder, "Call her, okay?" He nodded with a small smile, this time it was filled with a bit of hope, "Thank you, and uh, I'll see you around?" I nodded, "See ya, oh and don't worry, I won't tell any of your fangirls about this okay?" I said before waving to him. He looked grateful as he waved back with a 'thank you' as I left. A few minutes of walking later, I made my way to class, Daichi waving me down to a seat he saved for me. I thanked him as the room slowly filled with people and the class began. I was still replaying the events from earlier.
I couldn't help but wonder if I was one of the few or only people to see him like that.
