"Thanks for the info. BTW Abby's brother is named Shaun-Calvin, but everyone calls him Shaun for short.

-Alven"

Shaun was absent again today. And if I'm being honest, not seeing him made it easier to deal with the pang of guilt that nagged me.

My mom met me by the front door of our house with a card and a delicious tray of Italian food. Despite me craving it, it was not for me.

"Could you please take this to the Evans house? I wanted to give them a little something after Abby's death."

I nodded, grabbing the tray. I walked for about 15 minutes and reached their door. However when I knocked, no one answered. Noticing that the food was cooling, I knocked louder and realized the door was unlocked.

I hadn't let myself in to Abby's house very often since we usually hung out at my house. But the moment I opened the door a bursting smell of wine and such filled my nostrils. The house seemed empty as I walked through the hall into the kitchen. I set the food down on the table.

PING!

I jumped practically a mile high from surprise then realized it was a phone on the counter that had received a notification.

My phone had also received it. Opening it I realized it was our homework assignment from our teacher. I knew right away the phone on the counter either belonged to Shaun or Abby. However Abby had a different phone case. In which case it belonged to Shaun.

I picked up the phone.

200 missed notifications...

Last checked: Monday

That was 3 days ago. Did Shaun completely abandon his phone?

Who on earth doesn't check their notifications, especially if it affects your grades? Then again, who has time to worry about stuff like that when your sister has just died.

I walked back outside, leaving the phone behind.

For some reason, I decided to message Alven.

"How come you didn't ask Shaun about the funeral?"

He answered by the time I got home.

"Shaun hasn't been answering my calls or texts and he hasn't been at school which you already know. I actually haven't seen or heard from him ever since Abby died."

I tapped my fingers quickly, asking him another question.

"Have you been to his house recently?"

From Alven:

"Yes. I was there yesterday and the day before. He didn't come to the door though."

Something seemed a little weird about this all. Even though I never met Shaun, I felt a little worried about him on behalf of Abby. And if Shaun had been kidnapped or something, he might miss his own sister's funeral. I figured I was jumping to conclusions but either Shaun had ghosted Alven or something bad had happened to him.

From Alven:

"I just got a text from him out of nowhere."

From me:

"What did it say?"

From Alven:

"'Goodbye'"
