I walk down to the stables after having a shower after the water slide and canoes. I run into Stefan. "Where are you going?" He asks me. "I'm going to see Shadow. I have a note" I say and show him the note.
"Alright" he mutters and walks away quickly. I stare after him. There's something wrong with him I just can't figure out what it is. I shake it off and jog down to the stables and meet Jenny there. "You ready?" She asks.
"Totally" I reply smiling.
"Now remember, she'll eat the carrots from your hand but you need to show her you're worth trusting" Jenny explains.
"Ok" I say nodding. We walk through to the back where Shadow is standing. I can't help but smile when I see her. I pick up a carrot and walk over. She doesn't back away as much as she did yesterday. I went back down yesterday and worked with her for hours on end. "Hey girl" I whisper. She takes the carrot from my hand and as she does I place my hand on her nose. She stops but doesn't move. "It's OK... I'm not going to hurt you" I mumble quietly. I movie my hand to her neck and pet her gently. The best part is that she actually let's me. I smile to myself. "That's amazing... it took me weeks to even touch her" Jenny says softly.
"It's amazing" I reply.
"You should move towards me and turn your back to her... if she walks over to you and nuzzles your back it means she trusts you... you could possibly even ride her if she let's you" Jenny whispers. I nod and turn my back to Shadow and walk over to Jenny. I wait patiently. Jenny begins to smile and I want to turn round but then I feel Shadow nuzzling my neck. I turn around slowly and pet her neck. "This is just amazing" I say beaming.
"That was fantastic... she must trust you ally to let you near her this fast" Jenny mumbles. I nod. "Can I ride her now?" I ask. Jenny thinks for a moment. "I suppose you could" she says. I smile and go through to the tack room. I get the one with Shadows name and bring it all through. I place the blanket gently over her back, and then the saddle and the reins. She let's me do it all. I pull over the box and stand up on it. Jenny holds the stirrup down on the other side to stop the saddle fall of. I climb on and Shadow seems a little nervous at first but she calms down. "Which trail would you like to ride?" Jenny asks.
"I don't mind" I reply.
"Alright, I'll get a stable hand to walk with you" she says.
"Wait! Jenny, can you ride with me?" I ask.
"Are you scared?" She asks.
"No, I would just like you to ride with me... please?" I ask.
"Okay... I'll saddle up C.J. Wait here" she says. I nod an she turns to find C.J. Large returns a couple minutes later on C.J. "Alright, let's go" she says. I nod and we ride out the barn on the horses. It feels great to ride Shadow. She's a beautiful horse and I thought it would take the whole summer to be able to ride her. But it only took a couple days.

We go on a trail along a sandy beach that's about an hour away. Of course Jenny had to phone the councillor a first to make sure it was OK that I went. We ride along the waters edge and Shadow seems to be enjoying herself. "So have you thought about my offer?" She asks. I know straight away that she means Shadow. "I have... and I would absolutely love to keep her" I say with a smile. Jenny beams at me. "That's great" she smiles. I nod.

When we get back to camp I tack up Shadow, say goodbye to Jenny and head back to my cabin. It's past dinner but hiding mind. I'm not hungry anyway. I walk in and Stefan, Fern and Lola are sitting on my bed. They don't look happy. "What's wrong?" I ask.
"Girls, go get one of the other councillors... we might need some help" he whispers. They nod and run out the cabin. I look at Stefan confused. "Help for what?" I ask.
"Sit down" he mumbles.
"No. Tell me what's going on" I say.
"Sabrina please sit down" he says. Stefan never calls me by my full name so I know it must be serious but I don't want to sit down. "No. Just tell me!" I shout.
"Your mum phoned while you were out riding" he tells me.
"Is she OK?" I ask.
"Yea she's fine... but Catrina and your dad have been in an accident" he says quietly.
"WHAT? Well are they OK? Can I see them?" I ask frantically.
"Sabrina... they're dead" he whispers so quietly that I almost can't hear. My heart literally stops. "No... no they can't be! She's only 9! She's barely lived! And my dad... he... he survived a heart attack... no. They're not dead they're not!" I yell.
"Yes they are Sabrina"
"NO! THEY CAN'T BE DEAD!" I scream. Lola and Fern come back in but as soon as the door opens I sprint right past them. I run as fast as I can. "SABRINA!" I hear people shouting. But I don't listen. I just keep running. I want to get as far away as possible. I run into the trees and there isn't a path so I'm most likely lost. I hear footsteps and shouting so I hide behind a large tree until they leave. When I hear them live I slide down the tree. Tears start spilling out my eyes. "They're not dead... They can't be" I whisper to myself.
