JASPREET'S POV
I and Rohit , the team captain of Mumbai Indians , the franchise for which I play, started our practice. We both did together pushup with gliding disc, plyo lunge pass through, cross across walking and ladder steps. And then all the team players practiced catches and then sprinted along the ground.
After a couple of more such exercise my bowling coach and I went to the nets to practice my balling.I am a right handed fast bowler. bowlers like me have to focus on pace and our actions to get the desired results. Even I have to work on my pace and my swing action. If these two are perfectly done, then only one gets the wicket for his team. As well as to keep the batsmen from making runs.
I started my bowling practice under the keen eyes of my coach. Due to long break I couldn't get the ball fall on the correct place. I tried doing it that way many times, but it wasn't happening. I got frustrated by the continous wrong length.
"Keep focus on your grip Bumi, wrist se momentum generate kar, chal chal." (keep focus on your grip, generate momentum from wrist, no come on focus ) my mentor continued encouraging me. After my short run up of 8 to 10 pace I released the ball and finally hit the middle stump.
"Bumi, good good but prioritize your pace before the placement, speed par focus kar, after a long time you are practicing, speed ka dhyaan rakh, length baad mein ho jayenga", he advised me. (Bumi good goingbut prioritize you pace before placement, focus on speed, after a long time you are practicing focus on speed then ho for length)
I did as he told me, I kept my focus on speed and acceleration, after months I'm practicing bowling, so I have to keep up with my pace. After some more balls, he now asked me to focus on length.
" Ab length pe focus kar Bumi. thoda length change kiya kar, batsmen confuse honga." He adviced (snow focus on your length, change it to confuse the batsmen)
I tried to keep up with my pace at the same time focused on the length, but it wasn't happening. I got really frustrated and in frustration I just dropped the ball.
"Ho jayenga, frustrate mat ho Bumi apna pace right hai, length ho jayenga, just continue practicing, but for now take a break, we still have time before the tournament.", my mentor assured me. (it will be done, dont get frustrated, bumi our pace is right, lenght will also get better. we have a long time before the tournament now take a break )Since I'm a good death over bowler, I have to keep up with my performance because,my team relies on me and I don't want to let them down.
Moreover being a professional bowler, you have to be consistent so that you are taken in the team squad of the country for both white ball and red ball to play, if you lose your consistency then you sit in the dug out.Though I'm an international bowler and have been pretty good with my performances so far, but after a long break due to pandemic each of us is facing problems to get back in form and t20 games are the most unpredictable ones, you never know which over can change the entire game and be the game changer. From an easy win it can change into lost in just 6 balls. So you have to always be in form and fit.
I had been practicing at the back of my home, but practicing in net is something completely different, here we are gonna play with top cricketers in the world and in order to make our franchise shine again, I have to do my part best.
"So boys,it's a wrap for today, get some rest and get your asses here tomorrow on time. Specifically you Bumrah, I wont tolerate late comers." He said to me in an authoritative way, making it clear that negligence wont be tolerated.
Jassi, better be early tomorrow or else he wont allow you in the practice , I said to myself.AUTHOR'S NOTE
