Wasted Youth

The worker gains naught,
While the club goer gains all.
To be a hard-worker,
Is to work all the more.

Scholarships for he
Who attends art club.
Why none for he
Who makes money for home?

Clubs define aid.
Sports matter all.
Languages never to use,
Yet required they are.

The worker gains nothing.
No scholarships, no better grades.
Those who can afford clubs get all.
Even without especial brains.

And worse even still,
He who never academically struggled
Wasn't given the skills needed
For when all suddenly tumbles.

The grades aren't what matters,
A truth little taught.
The desire to reach a goal
Is what brings hope about.

Gifted students and hard-workers too,
Both pushed aside.
Never learned to study,
Never had the time.

Merit always squandered.
The youth waste away.
The necessary never taught.
Only the curriculum has a say.
