Red.
All I could see was deep, dark red.
My white shirt, no longer white, but now a dull crimson.
My hands trembled as I held Brandon's lifeless body in my arms. I felt my head was spinning, overwhelmed by the thousands of voices telling me to do something.
But I couldn't.
I couldn't move. I couldn't think.
I should be able to handle situations like this. This.
No. This I could not handle.
"Br-Brandon, op..open your eyes for me," my voice shook, and my throat hurt from trying to say something. Anything.
His head rested on my lap and my hand covered his chest. The silence against my palm was loud.
"Please, Brandon. Please open your eyes. Come on, don't lea-" A loud sob escaped my chest as I lowered my head.
Seconds passed that soon turned into minutes. My eyes felt heavy, cheeks stained with the unshed tears and I could almost feel the life being sucked out of his body.
"I love you, Brandon. I'm going to find out who did this to you. I promise." I kissed his forehead and held him for countless hours after.
I couldn't get myself to say goodbye to my little brother.
