Left For Dead

Two days. He's been missing for two days and no one has found him yet. I knew I should have gone with him, at least then he'd be home, but no he insisted on going alone. I called the police when Jacob still wasn't home the next morning. They told me to stay and let them take care of it. There was no way in Hell I was leaving him a second time.

I put my brown hair into a high ponytail as I headed out the door. I was going to the Police station to help with the search party. Since I was the closest to Jacob, I might know what path he took. I pulled my dark green jacket around myself as we were starting to enter the colder months.

Jacob must be freezing if I'm cold. What if he was laying in an abandoned alleyway without any warmth? He could be dead for all I know- no, stop. I need to think a little more positively. He's probably doing okay.

I arrive at the police station and walk up to the front desk. There was a small succulent to the left of me. Probably to make it feel more homey. It was a cute plant, but it was still very tense in here. I grabbed the attendant's attention and she looked up from her computer.

"Yes? What are you here for?" She asked.

"I'm here for Officer Parks." I told her politely.

"Name?"

"Stacy Scott."

"Alright. I'll go get him. Wait here"

I sat down on one of the chairs and waited for her to come back. I knew I was early, but I wanted to find Jacob as soon as I could. So I rushed here as soon as I woke up. It wasn't too long before the attendant came back with Officer Parks, more policemen, and their dogs. Seeing the search dogs gave me hope that he'll be found quicker.

"Hello Ms Scott," He shook my hand. "I assume you're here for the search party?"

"Yes."

"Good. We will be heading out as soon as we get something from Jacobs for the dogs to smell."

I handed him one of Jacobs scarves. He let the dogs smell it before we walked out of the building. He told them to "go find" and they did just that. They immediately searched the area with the help of all of the police and I.

We had been searching well past the afternoon and we hadn't found many signs of Jacob. I was beginning to lose hope when the dogs had started barking. I snapped my head in the direction the dogs were barking. There was a huge, seemingly abandoned, apartment building that seemed to be what the dogs were barking at. I ran with no hesitation to the building to see if there was a way to get inside. The police were already behind me, ushering me to get out of the way. I stepped aside and let them do their thing.

They had gotten in the door and we all scoured the place for any signs of Jacob. The rest of them had gone upstairs while I stayed on the bottom floor to continue my search. I found a closet that seemed to be closed rather forcefully. I grabbed the handle and slowly began to open the door.

What I saw was Jacob on the floor barely conscious. I quickly threw open the door and pulled him into my arms.

"Jacob? Jacob please you have to stay awake for me okay? Can you do that for me?" I ask, frantic.

His eyes met mine and he tried to speak. "S-Stacy?"

"Yeah, it's me, I'm here now. You're safe."

He sighed in relief and closed his eyes, relaxing his body. "Thank you."

I kept him awake as long as I could until the ambulance got here to take him to the hospital. He had cuts and bruises everywhere and he seemed rather out of it, so he could have a mild concussion. I went with him to the hospital to see what the damage was.

The nurse had come and gotten me and told me that I could visit him. So I went to his room and sat down next to his bed. He wasn't awake yet, but just seeing him peaceful was enough to lull me to sleep.

The ending was a little rushed as I had no idea how to end it, but I think it's okay.

I hope you enjoyed my mini oneshot. You probably won't see these characters ever again.

See y'all later!
