Chapter 16 - Diversion

"Look at you, Chaeyoung... Lookin' all hot like Lara Croft." Jaehyun sniggers, teasing the girl who had her hair braided like that of the heroin in the video game he played a long time ago. Ryujin squints her eyes, judging the guy's lameness, and only got a rolling of the eyes from the girl he just teased. 

Chaeyoung passed him by, shaking her head without a word but a soft sigh. Jaehyun then eyed the younger girl and was about to open his mouth to say what he had thought to tease her but Ryujin beats him to it, "Shut up," followed by an exasperated sigh as she too passed him by. 

Baekhyun then followed the girls and was looking at him before stopped right in front of him with a brow raised, "You always this lame?" He asked. 

"Lame? I think it was pretty cool." Jaehyun confidently shrugged. 

They stared at each other for a few seconds but Jaehyun couldn't take the sudden awkwardness a senior is giving him. However, as soon as he broke the eye contact, Baekyun then broke a chuckle as he pulls the taller guy by this nape and hanging around his arm upon it, "I think we'll get along, newbie. I'll tell you cooler jokes and pick-up lines." 

Joy too sighed in exasperation, already exhausted of Baekhyun's lame antics, "O Jesus Christ, not another one."

The Crimson Squad and Squad Yoongi will be dispatch at daybreak for a mission to retrieve survivors. 

Two days ago, the base received a distress call from one of the abandoned military shelters north of the main military base. From the satellite view, the base is surrounded by hoard that grew larger after a few survivors took the shelter. However, day by day, these survivors are being reduced in numbers and now, only five were left and their supplies are depleting. They were able to use some old tech that was left on that shelter to call for some help despite not wanting the military to find them. But given the situation, they have no choice.

Squad JB was already dispatched to help them but all they could do is transfer the supplies of food into the shelter. The hoard is too great for their team and needed back up. 

"How long do you think missions like this last?" Ryujin asked Chaeyoung softly in which Hanbin had heard clearly as he was already walking almost past them, "Depends on the situation. The longest we've gone for survivor retrieval operations was 3 weeks."

Ryujin's eyes grew wide while Chaeyoung's mouth hangs open.

"Yay! Camping!" Baekhyun cheered while Jaehyun followed his cheering before asking, "Is that a good thing?"

"Well, I like it better out there than inside here where I'm no use."

"Says the person who doesn't like baths." Joy interrupted. 

"Hey! I do like to bathe." Baekhyun retorted with brows all furrowed the pouting his lower lip.

"Alright, kids... The adults are here." Yoongi called out, hushing everyone up before Aris and Gong Yoo walked behind him. Yoongi then turned his head, looking at Aris as the man then stands beside the shorter guy. 

Realizing what Yoongi just said, Aris then turned and looked at Gong Yoo who caught his gaze and looked back at him in confusion before taking a glimpse at Yoongi who then looked back at him. 

"I'm not old." Gong Yoo sternly stated before looking at everyone in front of him.

"Do I look old?" He asked and everyone just stared at him. He then raised a brow which made everyone shake their heads in response and a forced chuckle.

He then started briefing everyone of the mission and intel he received from JB which only took 15 minutes.

"The general was kinda cute trying to be funny," Chaeyoung stated as they walk towards their military vehicles.
