It was the last seconds of the championship game. The Wildcats were behind. The clock was ticking down . . .
Then Harry suddenly flew across the court, weaving between opponents, heading for the goal. Just as he had practiced, he faked right, went left, threw the ball, and . . . NOTHING BUT NET! The buzzer sounded and it was a one-point Wildcat victory.
In the melee that followed, Coach Payne found his son and gave him a huge hug.
Mr. Clifford fought his way through the crowd. As he approached the coach, the old adversaries eyed each other for a moment . . . then they grinned and gave each other a high five.
As Becca got close to Harry, he called out, "What about your team?"
"We won, too," she said, excited and happy. They hugged each other in congratulations, just as Louis handed a basketball to Harry.
"Team voted you the game ball, Captain." He said. They high five each other, then he turned to Ariana. "So . . . you're going with me to the after-party, right?"
"Like on a date?" Ariana asked, shocked.
She laughed, and nodded. A week ago, he would have disagreed, but now . . . maybe Louis was right. Maybe it was his lucky day.
As Becca walked out of the gym, still beaming. Luke came up to her. "Well, congratulations," Luke said. "I guess I'm going to be the understudy in case you can't make one of the shows, so . . . break a leg."
Becca looked at him, confused.
Luke smiled–a real smile this time–and explained, "In theater, that means good luck."
And now Becca smiled a real smile, too.
As he moved on. Niall saw his chance and moved in on Luke.
"Sorry you didn't get the lead, Luke," he said. "But you're still really, really good. I admire you so much."
"And why wouldn't you?" asked Luke, who hadn't changed into a complete different person, after all. "Now bye-bye."
He shyly held out a bag of cookies. "I baked them for you . . ." He took them as if they were his due, and he walked away.
Harry found Calum in the crowd and handed him the basketball. "Composer, here's our game ball. You deserve it . . . playmaker."
Calum nearly fainted. He was being handed the game ball by Harry Payne! He got dizzy, just thinking about how much his life had changed in one short week. Dizzy and very, very happy. He broke into a huge grin and threw the ball in the air.
And when it came down, East High School was a different place. It was a place where punk kids could talk to brainiacs, and jocks could hang out with drama kids. It was a place where everybody could follow the beat of their own drummer, and other people would cheer them on. In other words, it was a place where people could have fun . . . together!
Harry:
I, I need your love, need your love
Taste in your tongue (oh), the smoke in your lungs
I, I need your love, and I need your love
The salt on your skin is pulling me in
And I need your love, and I need your love
Becca:
I don't wanna say goodbye to another night
And watch you walk away
I don't wanna let it burn in the city lights
And make the same mistakes
This time
All:
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it
Don't wanna waste the night
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it
Don't wanna waste the night
Ben:
The scratch in your voice leaves me no choice
And I won't give up, and I can't give up
Luke:
I don't wanna say goodbye to another night
And watch you walk away
I don't wanna let it burn in the city lights
And make the same mistakes
This time
All:
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it
Don't wanna waste the night
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it
Don't wanna waste the night
Harry:
I don't wanna say goodbye to another night
I don't wanna let it burn in the city lights
I don't wanna say goodbye to another night
And watch you walk away
I don't wanna let it burn in the city lights
And make the same mistakes
This time
All:
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it (Don't wanna waste the night)
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste the night (I don't wanna waste the night)
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it (Waste the night)
I don't wanna waste it (Oh), don't wanna waste the night
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
I don't wanna waste it, don't wanna waste it
(Waste it, waste it, waste it, waste it)
Becca:
And I, I was wrong
All along
Carry on, I lost my mind
I was wrong
You're all I want

After the huge celebration, people were still milling around, laughing, talking, and getting to know people they had never even noticed before.
That's when Luke came flying into the crowd, pushing people of the way to get to Niall.
"Your cookies are the greatest!" He yelled. "The best things I've ever tasted. Will you make some more for me, Niall?"
Niall grinned. Of course he would bake for him! In fact . . . he waggled his eyebrows and said slyly. "I might even make you a crème brûlée."
