END OF FLASHBACK

"I didn't," Rosetta said staring at her brother.

"Why not?" he asked.

"I told you before, it's not right," said Rosetta.

"Well, if you feel that way then I guess there's nothing I can do to change your mind," he said.

"Why don't you go and see Lia?" Rosetta suggested. "You seem to be here less than mum and dad and you live here. Go and see her; it'll make her happier. She missed you."

"Yes M'lady," said Mathew before leaving and going downstairs to his youngest sister Lia.

Rosetta watched through the window as he approached Lia and she came running over to him. She laughed as he picked her up and twirled her around high above his head. Rosetta had never understood what Mathew was thinking but she knew that it was a dark place at times.

Later that evening, their parents arrived back and the three siblings were called tot he drawing room together.

"There you all are," said their mother smiling at them.

The children conversed with their parents for a few minutes before Mathew and Lia left.

"Rosetta," said her father. "You are our oldest daughter and within the next month you'll be seventeen years old. We have arranged for you to meet your fiancee within the next week or two before your birthday. Your fiancee is a boy older than you by half a year and he is the son of the Lord and Lady Mera. You've met before though you might not remember."

Rosetta looked at her parents in surprise.

"Engaged? Fiancee?" she asked confused.

"I'm sorry we didn't tell you sooner but this has been arranged for several years now and you need to know," said her mother. "We'll be leaving again tomorrow early in the morning because we need to go to France to meet up with a Duchess."

With that they both left Rosetta alone in the room and went upstairs. A million thoughts and questions were racing through Rosetta's head and she couldn't focus on any of them as they echoed around the walls in her head.

"Hey, Rosa is something wrong?" a small voice asked tugging on the hem Rosetta's dress.

"Huh?" she said snapping back into reality.

"You were just staring ahead so I wondered if something was wrong," said Lia looking up at her sister with big green eyes.

"It's nothing," said Rosa before going upstairs to her room.

When she was alone, she took out her computer and checked photos of the Loord and Lady Mera and their son. From the few photos she could find, Rosa decided that he looked cute but she didn't know if that was going to be enough to help her in this.

(Tragedy in the next chapter.... maybe.... it depends on how I'm feeling when I write it... how are you enjoying it so far? I PROMISE THAT IT'LL GET BETTER. I went back and read what I've done so far and there are a few parts which I wan't to change but I don't think I'll do that until I've finished this story and have seen where it goes. I might end up re-writing it and uploading it... we'll see. See ya, love ya)
