Just a Teardrop In The Ocean

What happened?

FLASHBACK:

"Hey Rosa," said a boy with dark blonde hair walking over to a girl who was sitting next to the pond in her garden.

The girl turned to face her brother.

"Hi," she said standing up. "Where did you go this time?"

"I only went to the next town over," he said joinig her. "I was sent to check it out but there's nothing exciting there."

"Nothing exciting yet you were gone for almost three months?" Rosetta enquired looking at her brother in a disbeleiing way. "Honestly Mathew if you really thought that it was so boring then why did you stay there?"

"Because... I needed time to think," he said lying down on the grass.

He patted the space next to him but Rosetta just looked at him unsire.

"Just sit down," he said. "I'm not going to try and kill you or anything."

Slowly, Rosetta sat down next to Mathew and looked him in the eye.

"So why did you need to think?" she asked him.

"So they haven't told you?" he said suprised.

"Who mum and dad?" Rosetta asked. "They haven't been back here in almost a year and they only write once every three months. Do you really think that they'd tell me about anything?"

"You've got a point I guess," Mathew said. 

"What is it then?" Rosetta asked.

"They said that I need to get engaged," he said looking up at the clear blue sky.

Rosetta sat there looking at her brother. He was only one year older than her being seventeen but getting engaged at his age! This was a shock to her.

"I'm sure that it won't be too hard for you to find a girl who'll get engaged to you," she said thinking about it. "You are a Lord. You're popular with all of the girls, you have outstanding grades at school. It shouldn't be too hard. Just make sure you don't do anything that could hurt her."

He went silent as he listened to his sister.

"But it isn't that easy," he said looking at her. "I can't just get married to someone I just met and don't know properly. Plue I already have someone I like..."

He trailed off leaving Rosetta curious.

"Then why don't you ask her to marry you?" she asked.

"You sure?" he asked.

"Yeah," Rosetta said in an encoraging way.

"Then I will," he said turning to face her. "Rosetta can I ask you something?"

"Depends," she said slightly confussed.

"Will you marry me?" he said looking at her with pleading eyes.

Before Rosetta could react, Mathew kissed her. It was only gentle and quick but to Rosetta this was frightening and evey second that something happened would be another moment for her to be scared. Rosetta had never been in love and now her first kiss had been stollen by her brother.

He pulled away and Rosetta stared at him with eyes which were full of confusion and a hint of hatred.

"WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT?" she yelled at him getting to her feet.

"Because I wanted you to know how I feel," he replied also getting to his feet.

"i can't marry you," Rosetta said.

"Why not?" Mathew asked.

"Because you're my brother!" Rosetta exclaimed looking at him in shock.

"So?" he asked looking at her with honest eyes. "Why can't I love you?"

"It's not right," Rosetta said before running off towards the house.

When she reached the doors to the house she ran into her little sister Lia.

"Rose, what's wrong?" Lia asked. "You look upset."

"Huh?" said Rosetta. "Oh, nothing. Don't worry about me just go and play."

The next morning, Rosetta found out that Mathew had gone off again traveling to another nearby town or country.
