I think that it is safe to say that most girls love clothes on some level. I love looking at cute outfits on Pinterest and dreaming about having those outfits. While this is not a bad thing in and of itself, it can lead to unhappiness and the sin of coveting. Exodus 20:17 (NIV) says, "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." God commands us to not covet, or desire/want, the things—including clothes—that belong to others. Today, I want to encourage you (and myself!) to be content with the clothes that you have and to let go of any unnecessary attachments that you may have to certain articles of clothing that you may have laying around.
I found this video that a Christian YouTuber posted and it helped me out a lot with getting rid of clothes that I did not need anymore: "Get Rid of Clothes That Don't Fit..." by Nastasia Grace
After watching this video, I decided that it was time for me to clean out my closet and get rid of the clothes that do not fit...even if it was something that I loved to wear. I also decided that I needed to get rid of the clothes that I have not worn in ages. And you know what? Cleaning out my closet made me feel a million times better. I got rid of clothes that made me feel insecure about my body and it allowed me to not feel guilty about buying a couple of new articles of clothing. My mom and I also traded a few sweatshirts and sweaters that did not fit the other one quite right, which was actually pretty fun!
In my personal experience at college, I did not wear that much variety of clothes. Basically, I wore the same seven or eight outfits each week...just in different orders/pairings. My friend at school said the same thing about her clothes too. So you do not need to take a lot of clothes with you to college. Just take what you need and what you KNOW you WILL wear.
I challenge you to start off 2021 (or whatever year/month/week you are reading this) by taking Nastasia Grace's advice and get rid of the clothes that you do not need or wear anymore.
