"She doesn't even know we're going to see her Tommy so stop rushing me!" I shout, doing the buttons of my blouse up then tucking it into my pale green skirt.

"I told you what time I'd be here Evie! You're gonna make us late!" He shouts from downstairs.

"She doesn't even know we're coming!" I remind him, running down the stairs.

"Your still not even bloody ready," he sighs, holding my coat and nudging my shoes towards me.

"Give over," I laugh, slipping into the white kitten heels and plucking my coat from him and slipping it on.

"Can we go now or have you forgotten something?" He asks. "We can go," I laugh, stepping out of the house and rushing to his car.

"Why does one person need such a big house?" I ask as he pulls up to a mansion.

"She's a toff, they love showing people their rich," he says as he opens the car door for me.

He offers me his arm as a maid comes out and shows us where to go.

"Nice house," Tommy says as we enter a massive room filled with a couple tables and chairs.

"Would you like a whiskey?" The woman I'm presuming is called May asks. "Scotch or Irish?"

"Irish," Tommy answers.

"Would you like a gin, or tea?" She asks me.

"Oh I drink whiskey, same as him," I say, smiling.

I look around the room as they talk about a small diversion and miles, wondering how one woman could live here with maids and butlers.

"Thanks," I say as she gives me a whiskey.

I read Whiskey's details over Tommy's shoulder, proud that Tommy won the auction.

"She'll need a lot of work," She says.

"Can we see her?" I ask. "Sorry I haven't quite caught your name," she says.

"Evelyn Loveridge," I say, offering her my hand.

"May Carleton," she says, shaking it.

"What's your horses name?" She asks Tommy as she begins to lead us back to the front of the house, placing her - what I'm hoping - faux fur coat on.

"Whiskey," Tommy answers, putting his cigarette out on the floor.

"You named a horse that you're going to race Whiskey?" She asks.

"You didn't bloody tell me she was going to the races," I scold Tommy.

"Why Whiskey?" She asks, making me giggle.

"He told me to name her after something I liked."

"What do you do for a living, Evelyn?" She asks as we reach a field where a man is riding Whiskey.

"I'm a nurse."

I smile at the man as he brings Whiskey over, dismounting her then walking her over to a trough.
