A/N: This is my first book so sorry if there are some mistakes, all the characters belong to Connie Glynn, I just love this series and thought I would make my own fourth book, a continuation of the third. Please don't be a silent reader, vote and comment :)
Lottie's heart caught in her throat at the sight of the rogue Partizan. Meanwhile, Jamie was completely untouched. In fact, you could see a smile playing in the corner of his lips. He clearly didn't know, and they definitely couldn't tell them due to the promise they had made Sayuri. When professor Devine had finished talking she kindly asked them to show Haru to the Conch Dorms. Luckily, he wasn't in their dorm, the only disadvantage, not being able to keep an eye on him, but fortunately, Anastacia had volunteered along with Saskia to make sure he didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
Once Lottie and Jamie were finally alone, they started to walk towards their classes none of them saying a word, until right before they spilt their different ways, Lottie decided to speak up and said "Jamie, not everyone is who you think they are, remember that, please." With that she walked away leaving his normally indecipherable face with a trace of confusion. She hated the fact that she couldn't tell him, and dreaded his reaction when he actually found out. Lottie headed towards her next class, art. That should take my mind off this she thought. She entered the class room and sat on her usual seat. None of her friends were with her in this class so she sat next to a kind, brunette girl that went by the name of Gabriela. This was her first year at Rosewood and she didn't have many friends. She was timid and closed-off, yet she seemed to be open to Lottie, she seemed to trust her and want to be her friend so Lottie had decided to try to be her friend as well, after all, they were both from the Ivy house and had various traits in common. "So, are the rumours true Lottie?" Gabriela asked "are you really the Maravish princess?" Lottie froze at this question. "Ye..s" she answered. "Hmph...okay" Gabriela muttered, not entirely convinced. That was weird Lottie thought. The class ended and Lottie said goodbye before heading to her dorm.
Jamie had been looking for Lottie all afternoon, but it was as if she were ignoring him. She wasn't in any of her favourite places, the library, the gardens or even her dorm. After a while, he just gave up and started heading back towards his dorm. As he was entering the Ivy reception, he saw a mass of blonde ringlets just around the corner. He immediately started chasing after them. She was fast and had advantage. Before he realised it, he was lingering, deciding on what corridor to follow. He panted as he leaned against the wall. He finally gave up. It was clear. She was undeniably avoiding him. What did I do wrong? he thought. With that question in mind he started wandering towards his room. If Lottie wanted to see him, she'd find a way to talk to him.
Jamie spent most of the next days with Haru, leaving Lottie and Ellie alone to do their own thing. They were becoming great friends, a fact that enraged Ellie and worried Lottie. After he'd spent another afternoon with him, he left Haru at the Conch House entrance and decided to go to Lottie and Ellie's room to see how they were doing. He quietly opened the door and found them sitting on the floor laughing over a card game. He coughed indiscreetly and both girls looked up in surprise, an expression which was quickly replaced by anger in Ellie's eyes and disappointment in Lottie's.
"So, how's the day been?" Ellie hissed through gritted teeth. Lottie immediately pinched Ellie's arm and gave her a warning look. She really needs to learn how to be discreet Lottie thought. "Good" Jamie replied casually unfazed by Ellie's reaction. Like that, the conversation was over. A silence overtook the room, the tension palpable in the atmosphere. Sensing this, Jamie turned around and left the room without another word. One week went by and Jamie grew distant, slowly failing into leviathan's trap.
It had been two weeks since Haru had arrived at Rosewood and Jamie had invited Haru to come eat with them, not realising how nervous that made the others. As they sat around the wooden table in the dinning room a silence settled in, which became overbearing. Everybody was afraid to speak, they didn't want to give anything away. The silence was broken by Haru, but fortunately, he only spoke about class, the food and the weather. Can he sense our fear or is he just trying to be polite? Lola thought, while her hands shook underneath the table as she tried to appear composed. Haru brought dessert, chocolate covered strawberries, Lottie's favourite. She instantaneously picked one up off the plate. It melted in her mouth. She was about to take another one when Ellie kicked her underneath the table at which Lottie let out a little yelp. She then shot her a disapproving look. Lottie immediately dropped the strawberry and changed the subject, "I better get going, it's getting late and I have homework I need to complete." The others agreed, and so, as if there had been nothing out of the usual, they all headed back to their rooms feeling rather relaxed. Lottie entered her dorm room and immediately felt same surrounded by these familiar four walls. She changed into her pijamas and laid on the bed. She was so tired, she went to sleep the second her head touched the pillow, satisfied that another day had passed without any complications.
