I jolted awake to the sound of my alarm blasting. My heart was racing for a few seconds until I suddenly realized why I had set it: My alarm for school. I sighed and covered my head with a pillow. Now that a week has passed, I have second thoughts about showing up to a new place. But I have to give it a try for my mom. Besides, it's not like I can't get up in the mornings; I've been doing this since I was in middle school. So I just have to suck it up and get it over with. What's the worst that could happen?

I rolled over to tap the screen on my phone to shut that annoying alarm off. However, I didn't get out of bed just yet. The sheets were so warm, but I knew my mom was going to criticize me if I didn't. After I had a mental conversation with myself, I finally dragged my rear end out of the sheets and shuffled to my closet. At least I was able to organize my room during the week since we still had those boxes to unpack. It was starting to feel like South Dakota, even if mom and I haven't been here long. We already explored the city, seeing lots of beautiful places and buildings. My favorite place so far is Flushing Meadows Park; there's something about taking a stroll in the morning that makes it so peaceful.

Letting out another sigh, I flipped the light switch to the closet so I could find some clothes to wear. Not fancy clothes, just something that'll be comfy. The sound of fabric from the coats and jackets rubbed against each other as the hangers slid one by one. A few seconds of searching later, I settled on a black t-shirt and a hoodie to wear over it. I then walked over to my dresser painted white to pull out sweats. It's not like no one will pay attention to my outfit since that's what girls my age wear. I don't want to be the one to stand out anyway.

Once I thought I had everything in order, I went into the bathroom to curl my hair. I applied makeup afterward, brushed my teeth and I was done. Taking one final glance in the mirror, I left the bathroom to eat breakfast. Now that everything was organized in our apartment, I instantly knew where the bowls and cereal was. It was nice having everything in order; I love looking at the furniture and decorations sitting where they are. It makes it feel like I'm at home.

After I had poured myself some Cheerios, mom walked into the kitchen. She was in her pajamas still with her hair pulled up in a clip. She didn't even have slippers on.

"Morning, mom," I greeted, turning to the fridge to grab the milk.

"Morning, Hollycopter," she replied. "Ready for school?"

"No."

I sat down on the stool to the island and began eating, a little too fast. I hadn't realized I was so nervous about this. Yeah, I've done this every year, but I'm in high school. My first time ever. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when my mom spoke again. But this time, talking about my outfit.

"Please tell me you're not wearing that today?" She asked, smiling faintly.

I shrugged my shoulders, smiling like I had got caught. "What? If I'm going to be going to school with new kids, then I better be in something comfortable incase I pass out from fear."
