⁂
I hear the faded rumbling of a car engine coming to a stop on my drive way. I leap out of bed and run down the hall to the window, in my night shirt, the curiosity now consuming my thoughts.I peer outside and see him, well dressed in a white billowy open shirt and light brown shorts. A simple chain laid on his chest gently forcing me to stare. The light hits his hair revealing the, carefully covered up, remnants of bleach on the grown out tips. A kind smile grows across his face as he waves the cab away. My gaze shifts to the dark leather travel bag loosely gripped in his left hand, the letters 𝙽𝙹𝙷 engraved into the body in gold.
I pull away from the window as he darts his gaze my way. I rush back down the hall, past my room and into my parents, both are already dressed and my mother has her black pearl necklace in hand, pushing her dark locks to the side, asking my dad to help her with the clasp. I stare at them from the door in panic as I ask, "who is on our drive?"
"Oh, Nea!" mum responds slightly spooked from my sudden entrance. "That's Bobby's son. You know, your fathers friend from college?" Dad cuts in smugly, whilst finishing with my mother's clasp "he's on tour! He'll be staying with us for a week."
"Oh, and Nea, we don't have enough room so he'll have to stay on the spare mattress in your room, ok?" Mum interjects "maybe his success will rub off on you".
"Great, just fantastic!" I growl under my breath as I walk next door (to my room) to get dressed. That was a low blow, as an artist and musician struggling to get my work out in the open, mum knows just how hurtful that comment was. Besides sharing a room for a whole week sounds like torture, especially when I don't really know him!
