Chapter 2: The one with the trial

It was Monday the 28th of May and it was the day of the trial. My friends were on the frontline with Joey and I was on my table with my lawyer, while Mike was sitting at the table nearby. 

"The state of New York in the trial for the divorce of Pheobe and Mike Hannigan. First, we are going to call Mike Hannigan, the petitioner, to the podium."

Mike went to the podium and told his part of the story. He accused me of betrayal and said, that I had never loved him. This was obviously not true, because I loved him as a friend and I had loved him for a while. His lawyer started to ask him questions, which were really absurd and he answered them victoriously. Then my lawyer started to make him questions:

-  " Why do you think Phoebe never loved you?" 

- "Because she told me, that she only lusted me." 

- "And didn't she even like you?". 

-  "I don't know." 

- "So, you are making conclusions out of nowhere. Fine! Please tell me one thing: Are you living in Phoebe's apartment?"

-  "Yes" 

-  " Okay, thanks. Mike please leave the podium! Phoebe Hannigan to the Podium!"

Now it was my turn. I told my part of the story from the beginning and then my lawyer made me some questions:

- "So, Phoebe, you want the divorce, because you are in love with Joey and not with Mike." 

- "Yes, but I don't want to end up bad with Mike, he's my friend and I love him...." 

-  "And how long have you been in love with Joey?." 

-  "Well, this is a difficult question. When I first met him, I started to like him, but then he started to go out with my twin sister. This was difficult for me, because I had a crush on him, but when they broke up, I took the opportunity and pretended to be my sister. I kissed him and the I fell in love with him and whe had spontaneous sex every once in a while. But I had always been in love with him since this kiss. Hovewer, I tried to forget him, and that's why I started to go out with my exes and even married Mike." 

- "But why didn't you tell him that you were in love with him?"

-"Because he was always going out with other girls." 

- "Thank you Phoebe! The accused is yours!" He said to Mike's lawyer.  

He made me questions related to our shared goods, to see what he could do about them. This was ironic, because the only good we had on common was our house, which belonged to me.

Finally, the judge called a break and my friends and I went to the hallway. We talked a little, and then the break was over. They called Joey to the podium. "I'm sorry for making you go through all this." I said to him. He looked at me with a sweet glance and said "Don't worry, our love it's worth it!" He gave me a kiss and went to the podium. 

Mike's lawyer asked him some questions and got to the conclusion, that he knew about my love for him from the beginning and that we had held an open relationship since our first kiss. He stated, that my marriage with Mike was a result of this relationship, and that our friends knew about it. 

Then my lawyer started to ask him questions and tried to fix the lay that Mike's lawyer had said: 

- "What did you feel when you first kissed Phoebe?" 

- "Well, at first I thought it was Ursula, but then I discovered it was her and felt really attracted and I started to like her." 

-  " Okey I understand. That is why you had sex with her. But why did you keep being with other girls?" 

- "Because I thought that she didn't feel the same for me." 

-  "I present this questioning as the prove that Mike Hannigan is lying. Thanks Joey, you can abandon the podium." 

"This is not enough. They could have done done kind of treat. I want to have more proves." Mike  said. 

"We need someone to testify then." The judge added. Chandler volunteered and my lawyer asked him some questions.  Chandler said that he had never been conscious of our relationship and that if we were going out he would have known it. 

"Fine! This state, that Phoebe isn't lying and that the other lawyer has made false proves to try to accuse her of lying to the law. Your honor, I would like to propose some kind of penalization for Mike Hannigan due to this severe and false accusations against my client." My lawyer said to the judge.

Now it was all silent. The judge was deciding what to do with our case. "I have got to a conclusion!" he added. "I am going to separate Mike and Phoebe Hannigan, and as a penalization for Mike, due to his bad behaivour and lies against Phoebe, The shared house is going to belong only to her.... Case ended!" 

We all went out of the building and were super happy, especially me and Joey, who could now have the relationship we always wanted to. The sun shined...

But then suddenly Mike invaded our happy world and made it a little confusing. "Congratulations, Phoebe. You've got your family name back and we are separated! But if you think that this is going to make your relationship perfect you are wrong. I am still going to make it as difficult as possible for both of you. Just prepare yourselves!" He said with a  daunting confidence that feared me. We remained there for a while looking at him with a confused look.

However, soon we started to walk again and returned to our happy world.
