Soon the Judge began to officiate the ceremony: "Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. May I begin by welcoming you all here today to the lovely setting of the Central Park for the marriage of Phoebe and Joey. Today marks a new beginning in their lives together and it means a lot to both of them that you, their family and friends, are here to witness their wedding vows and celebrate their marriage."
"Who presents this woman to be married to this man?" He asked. "I do" said Chandler. "Fine! Marriage is a desire by two people to share themselves and their experiences with each other, and a willingness to accept each other for who they are. It is making a commitment to friendship and mutual respect and calls for honesty, patience, courage and of course, humour. Marriage is where each partner is there to support each other in all that they do. Marriage requires closeness and distance - the closeness of a couple growing together and enough distance to allow each partner to be an individual. A good partner in such a marriage will be loving, caring and above all a best friend." He continued.
"It is one of my duties to inform you that this place in which we are now met has been duly sanctioned according to law for the celebration of marriages. You are here to witness the joining in marriage of Phoebe Buffay and Joey Francis Tribbiani. If any person present knows of any lawful impediment why these two people may not be joined in marriage, he or she should declare it now." No one talked or said anything. It was just as perfect as it could be.
"Could I ask you both to stand please, and hold hands?" So we did. We were really excited about the life we were going to have together, and smiled at each other. It was just magical. "Before you are joined in matrimony here today I have to remind you both of the solemn and binding character of the vows you are about to make. Marriage, according to the law of this country, is the union of one man with one woman, voluntarily entered into for life, to the exclusion of all others. These vows which unite you as husband and wife constitute a formal and public pledge of your love for one another. I am now going to ask each of you in turn to declare that you do not know of any legal reason why you should not be joined in marriage to each other."
"Phoebe, please repeat after me: I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I, Phoebe Buffay, may not be joined in matrimony to Joey Francis Tribbiani" I did so and we smiled
"Joey, please repeat after me: I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I Joey Francis Tribbiani may not be joined in matrimony to Phoebe Buffay." He repeated after him. It just seemed impossible that anything would go wrong! As the ceremony advanced we started to feel even happier.
"Now the solemn moment has come for these Phoebe and Joey to contract their marriage before you their witnesses, families and friends, so can I ask you all to stand please and join together for the celebration of their marriage."
"Joey will you take Phoebe to be your wedded wife, to share your life with her, to love, support and comfort her whatever the future may bring?"
"I will" he said and smiled to me.
"Phoebe, will you take Joey to be your wedded husband, to share your life with him, to love, support and comfort him whatever the future may bring?"
"I will" I said, with enthusiasm.
"Now before you exchange the rings, would you like to read your marriage vows?" He asked "Of course!" Answered Joey and took my hand. He began to read his vow: "Phoebe Buffay, I am the happiest man in the whole world now that I am your husband. You make every single of my days magical and I'm really excited to continue feeling this way with you every day of my life. I love you a lot and I promise to be the perfect husband for you until the end. You are my lobster Phoebe and I promise to be with you every day of my life in sickness and in health."
I cried and tried to search my vows. Gosh! They weren't there! I left them in my house! How could I've been so stupid? What was I gonna say to him? Oh no! This was horrible!
I just remained there petrified as these mind-boggling thoughts ran through my head. Suddenly I couldn't stand this anymore.
"Excuse me for one second please!" I said an ran away cri
crying. Joey freaked out and my friend ran behind me. "Hey! What was that?" Asked Chandler furious for having let his best friend alone in the aisle. Monica looked at him angry. "Is everything alright?" She asked me. "No! I can't believe this... I forgot to bring my vows!" I answered, really frustrated. "Well, welcome to the divorce force club!" Said Ross in a satiric tone of voice. "Ross!" Shouted my friends, and he shook his shoulders. "Pheebs!", said Rachel, "why don't you prepare another vow in your mind?" It was a good idea, but I didn't know what to say, suddenly I got a brainwave.I went back to the aisle and the judge asked: "Shall we continue?" "Yes!" I said. "Ok, then Phoebe go ahead with your vows!" So I did: "Joey Francis Tribbiani, since I met you, I fell in love with you and I hoped that some day we could have something special together. However, I never imagined that this something was going to be so special. I love you Joey and I love our relationship too. You are the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me, and the reason why I left right now was, because I couldn't find my vows, so what I'm saying now, is what I really feel for you, whitout any filters." He laughed and hugged me. We remained hugged to each other for a while, until the judge said: "We are not at this point yet!" We laughed and He said: "Sorry!"
"Well, returning to where we were: It is an ancient tradition for a bride and groom to exchange rings. This giving and receiving of rings symbolises the continuity of their relationship and the sharing of their lives together. A wedding ring is an unbroken circle which symbolises an unending and everlasting love. We would ask you to wear your wedding rings as an outward sign of lifelong vows and promises that you have both made to each other today."
Joey took my hand and put my ring on. "I give you this ring as a symbol of our marriage and as a token of my love, trust and commitment. I promise to care for you above all others, to give you my love, friendship and support and to respect and cherish you throughout our lives together." He said
Now I put his his ring on and said: "I give you this ring as a symbol of our marriage and as a token of my love. I promise that I will respect you as an individual, support you through difficult times, rejoice with you through happy times, be loyal always, and above all, love you as my husband and friend."
"Phoebe and Joey you have both made the declarations prescribed by law and have made a solemn and binding contract with each other in the presence of the witnesses here assembled. It therefore gives me the greatest honour and privilege to announce that you are now husband and wife together. You can now kiss each other!" The judge said. We kissed passionately and then we walked to the 'Just Married' car.
