Chapter 14: End of the deal

Detective pressed the emergency meeting button.

"Detective- don't make us go through this again." Cyan had pretty much cooled down but seemed to start fuming again.

"Shut up Cyan. You don't even have any proof of Dorine being innocent. Now, be a good boy and listen to me," something about Detective seemed familiar, but I wasn't able to place a finger on what, "Firstly, let's look at Eggz- or dare I say....Dhee. Dhee had gone to the upload at communications and then the download, which shows that she was faking tasks. Next, she had faked a weapons task, and Plant had scanned in the laboratory, so we are indeed able to see the visual tasks."

"But that doesn't prove anything about Dorine-"

"I'm not done yet," Detective stopped Cyan mid-sentence. He pulled out a piece of paper from a makeshift pocket on his suit and tapped it repeatedly, "Cat and Dhee have tendencies to accuse other crewmates once they are accused by finding false loopholes and saying that they're sus, especially Dhee. We know this from the incidents at the Skeld and Mira HQ. Didn't Eggz do that to John? Dorine was also seemingly backing up Eggz in her accusation, which shows that they are working together. Lastly, I heard that Dorine said that she has one last task left. That is impossible since she would have at least two left after exiting specimens. Anything to say, Dorine...or Cat? Cat didn't kill Cyan. She's a crew-postor."

I hated how the evidence was neatly presented in front of me, threatening me to send me in the lava pit. Detective seemed to read my expressions, "Don't worry Cat. You aren't an impostor. You'll go back to Earth. I don't know about the details after you've arrived there, but I sure hope you will suffer for assisting the taking of those innocent lives." I hated the vibes that Detective was giving off.

Dhee was speechless. She was caught off guard by Detective's thorough explanation, "But-"

"No 'buts', we know you are the impostor." Detective probably smirked at his own ingenuity, I hated him and just wanted to toss him in the lava, but I was hoping for a small chance of worming my way out of this situation and restrained myself from doing anything.

Cyan was quiet. He mulled over the possibility, and realized that Detective was most likely correct. The real Dorine was dead. All that was left was the fake 'Dorine'. You could hear muffled sobs from him.

"Sorry for bursting your bubble, but at least you won't get killed now."

"Your real name isn't Detective, is it?" I knew exactly who it was. I'm pretty sure Dhee knew it too, "Eh, Daniel?"

Detective, or rather, Daniel smiled from under their helmet. "Congratulations, Cat. You figured it out. Took you long enough. The organization had sent me here under this name. You have caused quite the controversy back on Earth," Daniel shook his head while the other crewmates looked at him confusedly, "When I first saw you back at the Skeld, I thought you were a rather promising recruit. Your skills could've been handy, but no. You decided to act all chummy with Dhee, who you knew was already infected with the parasite. It's the parasite. Dhee's not here anymore. Will you ever realise that?"

"What do you mean?" I looked at the timer. 20 seconds left before the meeting ends. By now everyone knew it was Dorine and Eggz. We were just trying to stall for time.

"Yeah... am I 'famous with a planet named after me'?" Dhee mocked, clearly quoting what Dhee had said before we boarded the Skeld. She seemed to be catching on to what I was doing.

"They are all stating their opinions on you. Most people think that you are just another psychopath in disguise who infiltrated the ship. They think we should interview potential candidates more in the future. We've been receiving a lot of criticism here." Daniel complained, "But I know better. You aren't a psychopath like the general public thinks. In your file, it states that Dhee was your best friend in Space University. I can tell from the way you're acting. You like her, don't you? Even if she's a totally different and heartless specimen. You're just stupidly selfish. That's why this all happe-"
