The three walked together while the triplets bickered behind them.Sophie wondered what the Bex meant when she begged her to stay, "Umm... excuse me, but why did you need me to stay?"
Juline smiled at her, "Our last ring masters left the circus together a week ago. We can replace them, but we'd still need one more act to tie up the performance."
"Oh," that's all Sophie could say. Sure, it would be nice to join a circus, but she knew nothing about it, or had anything to offer.
Dex smiled at her too, "So we need a ring master. We found one already three days ago, so with you we can tie it off and finally enter the competition. The prize is a chance to perform at Las Vegas."
Sophie nodded, "But why would you need two ring masters? I thought circuses usually had one!"
Juline smiled sneakily, "Our acts are a bit special. Our Ring masters require intelligence and good memory. They also require being fast and efficient."
"That's cause we do three acts at a time and the ringmasters are supposed to do tricks, too," Dex showed his dimples with a huge grin.
Sophie gasped, "But won't that end super fast?"
"Nope!" Dex responded, "We have too many people and performances for that. Our circus is one of the biggest and best of East and South US of A. But Las Vegas casinos always seems to be fully booked whenever we try to perform there, and that could have been our big break," he added sadly.
"So there's a lot of people in your circus? Who owns it?" She asked. Juline and Dex's eyes darkened a bit before they opened their mouths.
"The Council" Juline said and they both held faces of disgust before clearing them again. Sophie looked at them quizzically but she didn't say anything.
She instead asked, "So, if I join, I'd have to become ring master?"
Dex brightened up, "You're gonna join?!" Sophie blushed.
"I don't know yet..." she wrung her hands in nervousness.
Juline smiled at her, "You don't have to if you don't want to. But, here we are!" She gestured at some green valleys and a thousands of people setting up tents and some woody things Sophie didn't know of. They all were laughing and chatting and working, it brought a smile up to her face.
"We stop the train once or twice to practice before putting on a real performance." Juline explained, "ALL RIGHT EVERYONE YOU KNOW THE DRILL! MEETING IN 1 HOUR! PASS THE MESSAGE ALONG!" she yelled into the crowd, but only a few people heard her and started talking and whispering to other people, and those people started talking and whispering to other people too. It was like Telephone (the game) but a lot bigger.
"Come on!" Dex yelled and showed her into the center of the valley, not even giving her a chance to look at all the practice performances. They stopped at a huge trapeze equipment and a girl with brown, tied back hair, stood on top. Another person, this time a boy, who looked similar to the girl was on the other side. They were both holding the swings, but the boy was hanging up there upside down on his feet.
Sophie almost shrieked when they both let go of the edge and swung toward each other. The boy caught the girl by her feet and swung her to his side and he swung back, but not before twisting around the small bar swing and hung upside down with one of his legs off the bar.
He was holding on with just a leg. Sophie obviously shown fear in her eyes, because Dex grinned her way and winked.
The girl swung to the boy and they switched bars. The girl held on with her hands and then planked her body in a horizontal way before spinning upwards and then stood on the bar with her hands and bended her body backwards so her toes touched the top of her head to make a perfect circle. She then bended back and turned so her feet hung from the bar as she swung back to the boy's side while the boy was at the girl's side.
Sophie stared in awe while it all happened. If it were her up there she would've fell flat on her face. Sure, there was a net, but it was still scary. The girl and boy both climbed down and went a few feet away to get what seemed like water.
"Aww, I guess practice is over," Dex whined.
Sophie's jaw dropped as she stared at him, "That was just practice?!"
He grinned at her, "Well, yeah. What? Did you think that was the performance? Nah, they got something even better than that!"
"That's amazing," she breathed.
He grinned again, "Yup! Now, let's check on the acrobats and gymnasts!" He pulled her somewhere farther away, still not slowing down, before a boy stepped in front of them.
"Woah, Deck! Who's this?" It was the same boy from the trapeze. He had striking teal eyes and that's as far as Sophie got before blushing. He also had brown hair that spiked a bit and a dazzling smile.
And he was looking straight at her.
Dex grumbled, "It's Dex! Not that hard! And this is Sophie Foster,"
"Cool! My name is Biana Vacker," a voice came from behind the boy. The girl that was on the trapeze stepped forward and smiled at her, "Nice to meet you. You our new Ringmaster?" She asked.
Sophie realized what she was asking and then quickly said, "Oh no!," she shook her head, "I'm just passing by,"
"For now," Dex corrected, "You said you'll think about it,"
"Yeah..." she blushed deeper, hating the attention.
