The summer before my fifth year at Hogwarts was a pretty quiet one, I was grateful that I live in London, and since I am fifteen now, my mum allowed me to go explore on my own. Just as I suspected she was delighted to hear the truth about Sirius.
When August came, it was time for me to head to the Weasley’s for the Quidditch World Cup. I shared Ginny's room with Hermione. It was pretty camped with three of us there. All seven of the Weasley children were going to the World Cup. Plus, Hermione, Harry, and I.
Fred seemed to have calmed down about the entire Cecilia thing. He was speaking to George again. They laughed and joked like nothing ever happened. They told me all about how far they have come with their joke shop products since school got out, which made me happy to hear.
When they returned from picking up Harry the second day I was here, the twins were gloating about how they had left a trick sweet behind from his cousin to eat. Tongue-Ton Toffee, they called it. It makes your tongue swell and grow to abnormal sizes.
Mr. Weasley was not happy with Fred for leaving the sweet to tempt Harry’s cousin. He said that his tongue was four feet long before the Dursley’s would let him use magic to fix it. The twins didn’t take this seriously, they actually laughed at this and they seemed proud of themselves for this. Mr. Weasley yelled at his twin sons, telling them that what they did to Harry’s cousin was wrong. Mr. Weasley was not happy with his twin sons at all but the twins just shrugged their dad off acting like they had done nothing wrong.
Ron and Hermione showed Harry to Ron’s room then while Mrs. Weasley teared into her twin sons as well. Percy popped out to say hello, but then went right back into his room. As many years as I have known them now, I’ve only been with the entire Weasley family at the same time like this a few times. Harry and Hermione didn’t have any siblings, so they were taking in all of the big family energy.
We sat outside for dinner, because the table inside wasn’t big enough for all of us to sit at. George sat right next to me, and Fred was on my other side like always. It was nice, the consistency I had with Fred and George. I liked it.
The next day we got up super early and we set off to take something called a Portkey to take us to the location of the World Cup. We met with Cedric Diggory and his father, Amos Diggory. He looked very happy to see that I was here. "Oh look," says Fred, jokingly, as we approached them, "it's Evangeline's boyfriend."
"Fred," I hiss, "He's not my boyfriend. We've had like three or four conversations."
"Wake up, Vangie, he likes you," says George, sounding just as confident as Fred did about this.
"You two are delusional," I say, and then we had reached them. Mr. Weasley was already greeting Mr. Diggory when us kids all got there. Cedric smiled in my direction and I smiled back at him. He was certainly happy to see me here.
"Hi Tonks," he greets me, smiling wide. I smile back at him
"Hi Cedric," I greet him back. Fred nudges my side playfully.
We took something called a Portkey to the location in London, and Cedric made sure he was next to me when we grabbed the Portkey. I have never traveled by Portkey before. Floo Powder and Apparition, yes. My father is Muggle so I've traveled by car most of the time. We all landed on our asses. Cedric floated down with grace, and he landed right in front of me. He held his hand out to me, and I took it and he helped me off the ground.
"Thanks," I say, brushing some grass off of me.
"You're welcome," he says, smiling that big smile at me. "That was your first time traveling by Portkey, huh?" He inquires.
"That obvious, huh?" I joke with him.
"It's alright," he says, pulling a weed out of my hair, "I landed on my back the first time I did it, too. It happens to everyone."
Fred and George are at both of my sides now, and we start walking again. The location of the World Cup was a big stadium that the local Muggles use for football games and other sports. Mr. Weasley was put in charge of making sure that the arena was secure enough for us to use. Even though we traveled with the Diggory's and we would be watching the game with them, we were not sharing a tent with them.
We trudged through the misty field between two long rows of tents. Most looked like ordinary Muggle tents, and the owners had tied them to make them look as Muggle as possible. Some however, didn’t care if they looked out of place. We had reached the very edge of the wood at the top of the field, and here was an empty space, with a small hammered sign that read, “Weezly.”
“Here we are!” exclaimed Mr. Weasley. I was the only one of us girls that helped the boys set up the tent. Hermione and Ginny stayed back to observe and give directions. I was the smallest and the most petite out of us girls and I was the only one man enough to help the boys set up the tent. We all stood back and admired our handiwork when we were done.
“We’ll be a bit cramped, “ said Mr. Weasley, “but I think we’ll all squeeze in. Come on and have a look.”
We all bent underneath the tent flap and entered the tent one by one then. I had just walked into a tent that looked like a three room flat, complete with bathroom and kitchen. Mr. Weasley sent Ron, Hermione, and Harry on a little trip up the field some more to get us some water while the rest of them went and gathered some wood for a fire.
We saw that Charlie, Bill, and Percy were now here as well when we returned to the tent. Ludo Bagman, head of the Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports at the Ministry of Magic, came by our tent along with Barty Crouch. Mr. Weasley jumped to his feet and introduced all of us to them. The twins made a bet with Ludo against Ierland winning, before he left us, he alluded to the fact that something is going to happen this term at Hogwarts that he would be there for, which made us all very confused.
Before the game started, I painted a big green clover leaf on Fred's face. He wanted to show his Irish pride full force. Then I painted George's face, too. He wanted a ting Irish flag on his cheek, so that's what I did for him. When we were finished getting ready, we headed to the box to watch the game, a work perk of Mr. Weasley’s.
Mr. Weasley kept giving off information about the stadium and how many people it could fit and all of that. He told us all about the charms he used on this place to keep the Muggles a way while we were here. He’s for sure put a lot of work into this job this year and he’s been rewarded perfectly for it. While in our box we met a house elf that seemed to be sitting alone waiting for her Master called Winky. Harry thought she might have been Dobby the House Elf at first, but he was sadly mistaken. Then, to our surprise, Draco Malfoy entered the box with his mother and father.
Barty Crouch informed Mr. Weasley that Lucius Malfoy just donated a very generous donation to St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries and Barty brought him and his family up to the box as his guest.
The Bulgarian team mascots entered the field then, it was a group of Veela women. They had a fun dance routine that every man and teenage boy in here was enthralled by. I’ve read about Veela before, and that’s what they did to men. They were very, very attractive to men, more so than other women were. Hermione, of course, being of Muggle descent, didn’t understand what Veela were and what they do to men, thought that they were just being perverted.
Ireland were already ahead by 130 points to 10 not even 20 minutes into the game, another 10 minutes after that Ierland had 170 points when the Bulgarian Seeker, Viktor Krum, got the snitch, thus ending the game.
Ierland had won the Quidditch World Cup, and the Irish cheers were echoing through the arena like mad. “He knew they were never going to catch up,” said Charlie Weasley. “The Irish Chasers were too good.” He was right, Bulgaria didn’t actually have a real chance at winning.
Since the game was won rather quickly, we still had a lot of the night left to ourselves. We had hot cocoa and we couldn’t help but notice all of the noise outside of the tent coming from celebrating wizards over the result of the cup. Mr. Weasley said he was glad he wasn’t on duty to have to deal with them. You don’t tell the Irish to stop celebrating, everyone knows that.
When we turned in for the night, we weren’t in long, when we were rushed out of bed by Mr. Weasley telling us to get up and that it was urgent. We did as we were all told, and we followed Mr. Weasley outside of the tent. We watched as people made their way into the woods, fleeing something that was moving towards them from across the field. Whatever it was, it was emitting odd flashes of light and loud noises like gunshots. Loud, jeering noises of laughter and drunken yells were drifting towards us; then came a burst of light, which illuminated the scene.
A crowd of wizards, packed tightly and moving together with wands pointed straight upward, was marching slowly towards us. I squinted to get a better look at them from away, they didn’t seem to have faces, but then I realized that their heads were hooded and their faces were masked. High above them, floating along in midair, four struggling figures were being contorted into grotesque shapes. It was as though the masked wizards on the ground were puppeteers, and the people above them were marionettes operated by invisible strings that rose from the wands into the air.
“That’s sick,” says Ron, sounding just as disgusted as we all probably felt looking at this scene.
Mr. Weasley finally joined us, his three oldest sons following close behind him. “We’re going to help the Ministry. You lot get into the woods and stick together. I’ll come fetch you when we’ve sorted this out!”
Bill, Percy, and Charlie all sprinted after their dad, leaving us to own devices. We were all underage, one of them should have stayed just in case we needed someone to use magic to protect us.
“Come on!” Called out Fred, gabbing his little sister’s hand and they took off running for the woods. We all followed the tall, skinny, long haired redhead boy into the woods. We didn’t even realize that Harry, Hermione, and Ron weren’t with us anymore until we stopped to take a break after about 10 minutes of pure sprinting. “We’ll wait here,” says Fred, “We’ve just ran in a straight line, they’re bound to catch up.”
“Oh, I hope nothing happens to them,” Says Ginny, worry taking over her entire being.
“They’ll be fine,” Fred assures. “Ron probably just tripped and they had to help him up. I’m sure they’ll be running up to us in no time.”
I don’t even think that Fred even believed that he had just said.
“Is everyone alright?” George asks, looking from his sister, to his brother, to me.
Ginny and Fred answer, but I notice another figure walking in the woods that catches my attention. It was Draco. He was alone. Totally alone. Where were his parents? Why was he alone in the woods right now? And why was he so calm about all of this?
Like Fred said to do, we stayed in our spot in the woods until Mr. Weasley found us. Harry, Hermione, and Ron were still nowhere to be seen when Mr. Weasley arrived with his three oldest sons and he’s also with Cedric Diggory and his father.
Cedric actually hugs me tight saying, "You guys are okay. Thank goodness."
"Yeah, we're good," I say, releasing myself from his hold.
Fred was smiling at me, I gave a look that told him to keep his thoughts to himself. We started walking back to the tent then. When we exited the woods, I looked up at the sky and I saw what I know has to be a dark green shadow of a skull with a snake slithering through it.
“Is that?” I hear Fred ask, but then he stops mid question.
“The Dark Mark? I think so.” George answers him.
“It is,” answers Mr. Weasley. “You lot need to get in the tent and don’t leave until I say so. You hear me? Stay put.”
“We will,” Ginny assures her father. That’s exactly what we did. We went to the tent and we stayed there.
They found the others outside of the tent. Harry I guess had lost his wand and hadn’t noticed, and it was his wand that made the Dark Mark over the woods. They accused Winky, the house elf that was in the box with us during the game, and Barty Crouch actually gave her clothes, thus releasing her from his care. She was distraught and Hermione was enraged at how he had treated her.
We were woken only after a few hours of sleep. The sun was just rising as we reached the portkey. Mrs. Weasley was very upset about what happened, especially since the last thing she said to the twins was something not very nice about their O.W.L. marks. She apologized repeatedly to them, even though they had forgiven her the first time. Mr. Weasley was mentioned in the Daily Prophet that next day for his help last night.
My mum would want me home straight away if she knew about this. So I packed my things up and I headed home, where my mother was waiting for me, wanting to know everything that happened last night.__________________
Here's part six!We're in book 4 now!
Honestly the reason Cedric has been such a Prominent person in this story is because I've been on an Edward Cullen kick lately.
I finally got Midnight Sun and I've been lowkey falling back into my Twilight phase.
And like, Robert Pattinson is beautiful so like, why not?
