I ate lunch by the back of the school with Ellie and The Toppats as per usual. Though I wasn't a part of their clique- or as most would call it: a gang- we still respected and hung out with each other. Once Sven and Right helped bust Ellie and I out of a juvenile center. Fun times I tell you.

I lit another ciggarette and asked, "Anyone want a smoke?"

"I think I'll eat first," Ellie said.

"I can't have one. The smoke will fuck up my wiring," Right said.

"Yeah, I'm really sorry about that," I said.

"Happened 3 years ago. You live and you learn," Right said.

Sven looked hesitant to ask. He'd always been known as "the better of us." Burt, mostly called by his last name, Curtis, always stayed away from drugs. If their gang actually became a clan one day, he'd be in charge of operating missions from a base. You can just see it.

I looked over at Sven, "You wanna try?"

"I-"

"Don't," Burt Curtis said.

"Curtis, let him try if he wants. Just because you're vanilla and pure doesn't mean you get to keep Sven that way," Ellie said.

"Let me try one smoke, just one," Sven said.

Curtis sighed, "Fine, do what you want to your lungs."

I took a ciggarette out of my pack and handed it to Sven. He was really hesitant but took it and lit it without burning himself. He took one smoke and started hacking his lungs out. Burt rushed to his side.

"Look at what you made him do!" Burt complained.

"He asked for the smoke," Right said.

"Henry was the one who offered it with this halo of light around it!" Burt said.

"I offered it, he smoked," I said, shrugging my shoulders.

Burt patted Sven's back while comforting him. I swear those two had a really strong bromance, or it was a romance. I shot a look at Ellie and she nodded, confirming she had the same thought as me.

Ellie let out a small chuckle.

"What's so funny?" Sven asked.

"Y'all are gayer than me," Ellie said.

"Hey!" Burt said.

"There's nothing wrong with liking men, Curtis," Ellie said.

Reginald and Right laughed a little bit.

Ellie looked over at them, "That goes for you two as well."

We all cracked up laughing.

"I swear the only straight people at this school are the goody-goodies and Henry," Reginald said.

"Yeah," I said, with fake confidence.

Yeah, I'm the straight one, sure, let's go with that.
