I leaned against a wall. I let out a small sigh. Ellie took notice to that instantly.
"Hen, are you alright?" She asked.
I nodded, "Sure, let's go with that."
It took her a few moments to register what I had said paired with what happened earlier. Her facial expression changed immediately.
"Did that get to you at all?" Ellie asked.
"No, I'm used to it. I'm that tall and tough bad-boy. It's been like this since middle school, I'm used to it," I said.
"The more you say 'I'm used to it' makes it less belivable," Ellie said.
"But it's the truth," I said.
She chuckled, "Jesus Henry, you are such a bad liar."
"I am not!" I said.
"Hen, we stayed in juvy together, I think I know you pretty damn well," she said.
I sighed, "Yeah I guess you do."
I heard Charles's footsteps coming around the corner and felt my heart give a flutter. Suppressing those feelings I composed myself into my usual position.
"Huh, interesting," Charles said.
"What?" I asked.
"For the first time, I didn't walk over and see you smoking," Charles said
"Because I don't constantly need it, I do it just for fun," I said.
He nods. I can see on his face that he doesn't believe me.
Ellie looked over at him, "Why are you bothering us?"
He looked up, "Oh. I'm here to inform you that Mrs. Amani has placed you two in a reforment program, lead by me."
The facial expression on Ellie's face, holy shit. She snapped her pen she had been holding in half, and I think she might've twitched.
"You did WHAT?" Ellie yelled.
"And I'm leaving now," Charles said, b-lining it to the inside of the school.
Ellie was so pissed, it was unreal. I haven't seen her like this since someone made the mistake of picking on her in middle school.
She took a deep breath and said, "I'm going to talk to that bitch-conselour."
"Is that really a good idea?" I asked.
"I'm not gonna fucking kill her, calm down," she said, walking away.
"Give me the switch-blade," I said.
"What?" She asked.
"Give me your switch-blade," I demanded.
Hesitantly and annoyed, Ellie walked back over to me and handed over the weapon.
"Now, go talk to the bitch-conselour as you put it," I said,
"Shut up," she said.
"Nope!" I yelled.
"I hate you!" She yelled.
"I love you too!" I yelled.
"That love best better be platonic!" She yelled.
"It is!" I yelled.
I put my hands in my pockets and looked down at my feet. I cracked a small smile. Maybe this reforment program won't be so bad afterall. I'm gonna see Charles more often. I looked up at the sky, closing my eyes and smiling.
"My soon-to-be corrupted cinnamon roll," I said.
