I thought I was in a dream because everything that happened in the span of just a few days seemed to be too made up to be real.
Despite of what Taehyung did, I did not feel a single bit of hatred nor contempt for him.
At first I blamed him for lying to me, but now that I heard his side of the story... I understood why he did it in the first place and I knew I could trust him.
No matter his unusual job profession, I still loved him more than anything and I was certain that after this, nothing could break us apart.
Or was I wrong?"Y/N! You're finally back!" Namjoon said excitedly as he walked in my office but in a matter of seconds his face expression turned into a confused one.
"Wait... why are you packing your stuff?" he asked as I put down things from my hands on the table with a heavy sigh.
"I resigned." I said and looked up at him.
"YOU'RE W-WHAT?!" his eyes widened in shock, his lips shaking, unable to from proper words without stuttering.
"I will not be working as a crime investigator anymore."
"N-NO! YOU C-CAN'T DO THAT!"
"I made my decision Namjoon. There's nothing you can do about it."
"But what about the 'Dark Wolf' case?!"
"It has been declared as unsolved. We did our best Namjoon, but there's nothing more we can do about it."
"What happened to you? The old Y/N I know would never give up so easily."
"I guess I've changed."
"What will you do now that you're no longer a crime investigator?"
"I'll help out my dad in his restaurant. Other than that, I'll start to enjoy life a bit more than before." I chuckled to myself.
"Is that Yoongi's case?" he asked pointing at the file that was lying on my desk.
"Chief gave it to me... since it will most probably remain unsolved... I never opened the file you know." I sighed.
"Why?"
"Because in these 12 years since his death I couldn't gather the strength to do so... But now I feel that I'm finally ready." I smiled.
"I'm happy to hear that Y/N." Namjoon said smiling too.
"I'll still see you around right?" he then asked.
"Of course you will! It's not like I'll disappear off the face of the earth!" I laughed as I hugged him tightly.
"I'll miss seeing your face around here. It won't be the same without you."
"Don't say that! You'll make me cry!" I chuckled with already teary eyes and playfully punched his shoulder.
"I can't help it, you really made my heart ache with this Y/N." he said as he wiped away the tears that were falling down his cheeks.
"Make sure to stop by the restaurant more often from now on. I'm sure you'll be able to recognise me even with the apron on." I said making us both laugh.
"Now get back to work! I have to go as well."
"See you Y/N." he said and hugged me once more before leaving.
As I got out I turned around to take a look at the police starting building one last time.
It was more than just a building and a workplace... it was my home, a place where my heart felt fulfilled.
I loved my job more than anything and I knew that one part of me will always long to return, but my heart's telling me that I've made the right decision.
I'm leaving this place with no regrets because it brought me so many happy memories that I'll treasure forever and because I'm ready to step into a new era of my life.
"Goodbye!" I said with a warm smile on my face when my phone suddenly started ringing."Hello, is this Misses Min Y/N, daughter of Min Wonshik?" a female voice asked.
"Yes. What do you need me for?"
"We're calling from the Seoul Severance Hospital...""... your father had a heart stroke and he... he passed away."
