It was raining heavily as Ezelynn tried to guide her car through the slick roads of Brooksbury. The fact that she had never been here before added to the already existing nervousness and anxiety as she relied on a paper map to guide her through the foreign streets as her phone held no signal.
It was already a nightmare. She thought angrily.
It hadn't been Ezelynn's choice to come to this god forsaken part of the country but it had been her parent's final wish and she had complied.
Apparently both her parents had grown up in Brooksbury and had gone to Brooksbury High School. She'd known her parents were high school sweethearts but the fact that they'd grown in such a remote place was a fact unknown to her. Not that they'd ever mentioned it. Plus their easy going life in the city had left no room for doubt.
So her parents had given her name for admission and she'd been enrolled for junior year but before her parents could know about the ecstatic news they'd been ripped away from her.
Even Ezelynn had gotten the news three days after the funeral.
So as a goodbye gift to her parents and to fulfill their last wish Ezelynn had agreed to go. Not that her now legal guardian her uncle had any qualms about letting her go. He wasn't evil or anything but he'd always been more of a black sheep of her family with his incessant drinking and touring. Handling a kid was not his forte.
And so here she was.
Finally taking a left from the current street, she drove through a road with thick canopy of trees flocked by both sides. Here amidst nature she felt much calm and rolled her windows down to feel the wind with droplets of rain upon her face.
Driving for about ten minutes more the trees cleared to give way to high rise gates beyond which she could see a huge building which resembled a church. It stood high with its pointed towers and was made of grey stones. Its windows seemed to be made of glass and reflected the bock clouds like a mirror. She hadn't read about BBHS(BrooksBury High School) being catholic or even religious. Maybe it had been a church or even a castle before it has been transformed into a high school.
Quite a transition, from being a sanctuary for peace and quiet to a gathering place for hormonal angsty teens. She mused.
She entered though the gates hearing the gravel crunch beneath her SUV's tires. She took a turn away from the main building as she first had to get herself adjusted in the dorms. She drove slowly seeing a cluster of two relatively smaller buildings flanking the main building.
God! this is huge and kinda majestic even. She exclaimed silently.
She finally reached the building which housed girls and came out of her car. The rain had diminished to light drizzle and Ezelynn stretched her limbs satisfactorily.
Five hours of endless driving will do that to you.
She entered through the wooden doors and was greeted by blue wallpaper and a stiff lady sittng behind the reception. The opposite wall opened into a hallway with many doors and she could hear faint music coming from the hallway.
Trevor Daniels? She wondered silently.
She was pulled out of her reverie by a throat clearing behind her
"Welcome to Brooksbury High. How may I help you?"
