"Why Vyan has my surname?"

Mishka's eyes snapped up to meet his which were looking at her with confusion.

She looked down at Vyan who was no longer protesting to get off her lap and was now trying to stuff his foot in his mouth.

Can he ever stay still?!

No.

Bending down, she kissed him on his head and moved back. She squinted her eyes and saw Aarish still giving her a questioning look.

"I wanted to give him something that belongs to his father" she spoke, again looking at Vyan. "Because after the day I called you and you didn't listen to me" Aarish lowered his eyes in shame. "... I lost all of my hopes of seeing you again. I knew and I was sure of it that you would never come to know about him, so I think that's why" she shrugged.

"And it's true, isn't it?" she asked.

"Huh?"

"If it wasn't Purvi, you would have never come to us"

Now it was his turn to avoid her gaze, not able to look in those eyes which were piercing him with accusation and daring him to say no.

Because it's the truth, his anger towards her clouded every sense of his that he didn't even wish to see her once or know about her whereabouts.

Only if he had not hanged up

and listen to her.

Only.

He got startled by the movement on his thigh. He saw Vyan trying to climb on his lap. He chuckled and picked him up and shifted on the bed, sitting indian style and placed him comfortably on his lap.

"Isn't it his sleeping time?" he asked looking at the little boy who was not looking sleepy at all and was continuously babbling, rocking back and forth occasionally colliding his back with Aarish's stomach.

"It is" Mishka spoke in low tone coming back from moments of the past.

"So, why isn't he sleeping?"

"He slept a lot in the afternoon, that's why" she said.

He nodded and focused back on Vyan who was now trying to get his attention, tugging the front of his shirt. "Yeah champ, dad is listening to you, what do you want?" he cooed and the latter responded babbling in his own language.

"He wants to play with you" he heard Mishka saying.

"Oh" he nodded. "Let's go to your room, we will play then sleep. Okay?" he picked him up in his arms.

"No!" his head snapped to Mishka's direction.

"What?"

"I mean play here only, there's so much of space..." she gestured to the overly big room "... and about sleeping, he is too small to sleep anywhere else beside me. And he is not habitual also. So..." she trailed off. What she said was true but only half of it. Actually, she is the one who can't sleep in Vyan's absence. Though it never happened but she can't even imagine it.
